One week ago I was DEAD MAN WALKING
The past two weeks have been the most freightning of my life.
Nothing to do with porn, so skip this story if you want pure
pornmaster info below. Get a big bob marley rum and coke and pull
up a chair as I tell you a tale that really made me plop my panties
and cry like a baby....
Three weeks ago I went to my doc at Kaiser Permanente (HMO) and
asked him to remove a small mole on my leg that I had removed
before and came back...nothing crazy, I have had moles removed
tons of times before. The doc said he would send me to plastic
surgury this time. Two weeks ago the plastic surgeon chopped the
mole off my leg and we joked and laughed and reminished about
Toronto since we are both from near their. 10 days ago I go in
for a check of the stiches and they call me into the quiet room...and
every nurse is being extra nice to me. What the hell is going
on. The doc says "we have some bad news, your mole was a
malignant melanoma also known as the biggest crook of all time
"CANCER". And the mole was stageII in thickness being
2.4mm. I really didn't have any idea what all this meant, so I
went home singing "Cancerboy, cancerboy"...and I thought
I might even open a website. I then started my five days of research
on the web. This is when the pant plopping began:
Stage I -- Melanoma: Stage I
is the most curable form of the disease. The malignancy is confined
to one tumor on the highest level of the epidermis, with a tumor
thickness less than 1.50 mm. The 5-year survival rate is greater
than 90%.
Stage II -- Melanoma: Stage
II is still confined to one primary tumor with a thickness of
greater than 1.50 mm. The 5-year survival rate is greater than
60%.
Stage III -- Melanoma: Melanomas
in this stage have nodal involvement. The 5-year survival rate
is 13% to 38%.
Stage IV -- Melanoma: In this
stage, the melanoma has metastasized to other organs. This is
the most advanced stage of the disease. The 5-year survival rate
is estimated at less than 10%.
I was stage 2 and I was almost
certain I would be dead in 5 years.
The doc also made me see and Oncologist that day and I was then
scheduled for a second full blown surgery. My small hole in the
leg would need to be enlarged to the size of a shark bite in order
to get any dangerous tissue. I was also getting a Sentinel Lymph
Node Biopsy...what the hell is that?

I guess the stats look a lot better if the cancer has not spred
to the nodes...if it is in the nodes...then I would be DEAD...within
1-5 years most likely. If the node was negative, I would had a
96% chance at 5 years which is close to the average human. After
the operation, the node was sent for testing...the node was full
of radioactive stuff so they have to wait a couple of days. I
ws in the hospital for a day because my leg was freaking pain
city...I had about 6 inches by 2 inches removed and it was covered
with a skin graph from my thigh...skin grafts freakin KILL. And
my groin also had a 4 inch cut for the node removal. I was in
rough shape and wa ready to cash in my chips. I was sucking back
way too many pain killers and had not eated and had become extremely
depressed. This was all within the last 5 days. Yesterday we went
in and finally got the news...my lymph nodes were negative. It
was incredible news and we were all balling with happiness. This
was easily the most terrifying experience of my life. I was sad
when I though I would die in five years...but I then became very
scared when I thought I might die in 1 year or less. I am now
clean but they will watch me like a hawk. I don't know if I have
explained things correctly...but I thought I should tell people
why I havent been around much and haven't chatted much on ICQ.
Just wanted to pass on my brush with the grimm reaper. I am still
in pain and on crutches, but who cares when you get a second chance
at life. If you have moles...watch them...if they have gotten
darker, or less round, or flakey, crusty, or changed...run to
your doctor. The same if you have skin that has turned color after
a sun burn...get it examined right away.

am freakin glad to be alive...onto to the weekly hodge podge and
continuous bad spelling and miss typing

here is another Windows98 trick. If you have a big HD, copy the
whole Windows98 CD into a folder in the HD. Then when you load
new hardware cards etc, you never need to load that stupic CD
they are always asking for...you can just direct it to the folder
WIN98. This saves a ton of time.
