I want to thank everyone for all the great emails and ICQs :) Today I thought I would tell the tale of the guru-O-gif and his porn adventures since many folks don't know the complete unedited history =D Some thrills, chills, and a little boasting along the way. I decided to start a BBS or dial-up bulletin board service back in the hayday of boardwatch mag. I had 12 phone lines into my house. I had a livingstone portmaster firewall router. I had a dedicated 56k line that was $1k a month. I had a trick ass GUI BBS that was as slick as AOL. I had a merchant account! I ran the bills by hand daily. It was damn fun but in the end, I lost $30k. I was late into BBS craze and I was macintosh. The good news is...I registered lips.com for the BBS back then and got my first taste of porn and the web.

95 one of the first to spam an engine
Time went by and I was working away at my sign store. It seems that lots of sign store people go into porn? ROFL Me and Serge and Signguy and probably a few others. I decide that I wanted my sign store on the web. I made a terrific site. I got 3 hits a day and sold no signs. I decided to go to the counter sites and see who was #1. "Ian's Brain". Ian was this 15 year old kid who had a picture of a brain on a page and it said that he like the band "Nine Inch Nails" and this seemed to get 20,000 hits a day. I was like o_O and WTF! I emailed and befriended Ian and asked to learn his secrets. Ian said it was simple....paste these 200 dirty words on the bottom of yourr page and submit to Alta Vista and the other engines. I did this, and the next day I got 5,000 hits. I sold no signs. I got 10 hate emails from horny guys. I got one email from a man named "Frank". Frank wrote "Andy, you are all over the engines on the dirty words...put up my banner and I will pay you 10% commish". Frank had live video. I put up his banner for the hell of it. My wife and sign store employees laughed and said I would not make 3 cents and I would never get paid. At the end of the week, the mailman brought me a check...it was for $500. I then began to spam those engines like a mofo. We had no scripts then...it was MS word and Find Replace Save As. You could do 100-300 doors a day. There were three click thru programs that I used.... Amateur Hardcore (who is now iFriends), Cybererotica, and Web's Youngest Women. This was back in the days of 2 cents a click. I had a single page free website doing 40,000 unique a day, all engine traffic. bandwidth cost was $1500 a month. My highest day was $700. The fucking gold rush was on baby!

Time went on and so I thought I would try a paysite. I opened sixchicks and it didn't do too bad but I hated it. I had almost 1000 members but I was spending 20k a month and making 20k since I had no content of my own. I called up my old pal "King Karl" of Gamma and we cut a deal and I sold Karl the site for $20k. Karl tripled his money on this deal LOL. He was happy and I was happy to be done with it.

Now one of the things that I did to get traffic to sixchicks, was that I created one of the first adult banner exchanges. There was LinkExchange, but nothing in porn. All of a sudden their were 3 of us. I bought code for $1000 from a guy named BeBe who had an exchange mainstream. Well this code melted the first week. It was sad. Here was the post to comp.os.ms-windows.nt.software.services where I begged to find a programmer : http://tinyurl.com/dzcc and this is how "Gus The Programmer!" and I met. Gus was an NT genius and worked on the code for sexswap for 2 years straight. We got it running quickly, and we constantly made improvements. I had $70,000 invested in the code at the end of two years, but it would scale forever, and would keep 99% of the crooks away. My competition never got their code correct. And rumor has it that MS could never get LE to run on NT boxes...they had to keep it on unix or it would fail! They only needed to call up Gus and I ;)

HOW DO YOU FILTER HTML EMAIL IN CALYPSO from Wyatt

Spam filtering... I figured I could try to filter out all mail with HTML as 99% of HTML messages are spam. When html parsing is off in calypso, it makes an attachment called "Message.htm". I tried to filter out all messages with the attachement of "Message.htm", but it did not work. I think because even though calypso treats non parsed html messages as attachments, they really are not attachments. Therefore, the filter does filter it. Have you figured out a way to filter all HTML messages?

I have good news! and I wrote about this a couple weeks ago and you missed it! =) You might love this. I personally like just using calypso so it html everything as and attachment and then deleting by hand BUT there is a way to do exactly what you want and I did play with it a bit and it is sexy sweet because I HATE html email. You need to download and try the 30 day trial of benign.

where login.cgi is the script name open is the subroutine and user and pass are the varibales send to the script. this should work with perl scripts, and maybe you are able to leave the subroutine but i am not sure about. just try and error.

There are a couple of ways to do this. If it is simple and you are doing a
plain old get request, this might work.

Make sure the variables match what the site is looking for by reviewing the form field names in the html and including all the hidden fields, etc... I assume you already tried this and it didn't work. The other option which should work for about anything but requires a little php knowledge is http://snoopy.sourceforge.net/ This php class does all sorts of cool login stuff. You can read up on the documentation there. Let me know if you need some help and I can give you a few pointers. If it is something real simple I can do an example for you... Just tell me the page you need to login to but not your username and password and I will try to make you something real quick that will work.

Problem with this is that depending on how server is set up and where
you go from there, your login and password can show up as a referral URL
on outbound stats. Say you logged in to above protected area, then you
typed in some other URL or clicked an outbound link... the URL with your
login/pass combo would show up as a referral URL in second sites
stats... ;^)

STORY TIMELINE CONTINUED :)

98 sexswap sold to gamma
SexSwap was cooking with gas and making great money. At its peak, SexSwap was grossing $35,000 a month and netting around $28k. I think record day was over 100 sign ups. That is with a huge staff workers....(total employee count 2) me and the wife. Total cost to run the joint was $7k in bandwidth. Dayne and Gary kept sexswap up 99.99% of the time and new how to make NT boxes work. I like to invent things and not run them, so I called up King Karl once again and we cut one more big deal. The deal was $1,000,000 paid over 1 year, 100 large in interest and 100 large (from a bonus claus) for me to stay and manage it the year of the sale. We also build in clauses that the swaps had to perform at a certain level or the deal would be altered. The newsletter was about to close when I sold. This is the first time of three total times that the newsletter was near death. I wanted out. I wanted to be done and play in the stock market. King Karl said "We want you to keep doing the newsletter even though you sold the exchanges...how much to keep writing them?" I was tired and cranky and did not want to write anymore and so I picked a high number thinking Karl might say No. "$1000 an issue". Karl said "Deal". Even if you are very cranky, it is hard to turn down 1 large an issue ;) and remember, this was the porn gold rush days...money was flowing and stocks were flying.

00 dot com stock market explosion
The market was ON FIRE. Legendary Lars and I were printing money in the stock market. We were ready to never look at the Boobies again. I had one week (a freaking 7 day period) where I netted $200,000 in stocks. Now that is fucked up. That makes you start acting goofy. I knew it could not last and the bottom had to fall out BUT you cannot just say that and get out...it is way too addicting. Well, we all know what happened. The market got hammered. We got kicked in the teeth and punched in the gut. I dropped 900 large. Legendary Lars dropped a little more than that I believe. Grown men cry when ths happens ROFL Nothing sucks the wind out of your sails faster than a big spank like that. But that is tulip bulb mania. :)

01 karl and andy cut new sexswap deal
And so I am crying in my double jim beam and diet cokes. Its ok, I am still writing the newsletter for great coin, and I have 3 other porn projects on the go. King Karl sent me the email "Andy, we have to let you go....porn is not as profitable...stocks are down...sexswap has dropped to grossing 5k a month". This was the second time that the newsletter was about to die a quick death. I felt that SexSwap still had life in it. I decided to make Karl a new offer and see if we could strike yet another deal, as we had done many in the past. If you don't like math, here is a simplified version of the deal....I said to Karl "King Karl, give me back control of SexSwap, let me manage it, and then lets split the gross 50/50. Ill also keep writing the newsletter while I manage it". King Karl agreed. Really the deal was more complex than that....it was ....$3500 base pay, Split everying over $7500 gross. In the end, it worked out to almost 50/50. I then began to remange the SexSwap exchanges with Dangerous Dan. We tested banners, and sponsors, and sold some ads and some traffic. We went from $5k a month gross to $14k at peak on the second life of SexSwap. Things have been sliding since and we hover around $10k with more sliding in the future.

03 here we are today
In the adult world, you must continuouly evolve with the times, and in mature businesses, you must continually cut costs. I agree with gamma that they should take sexswap back in-house. This will save them 60 large or more a year and they can extract the remaining profits from an old system from the early days of porn. In porn, I continue to work in three areas ....google spider traps, url poppers, and type-ins. I had google blacklist 60 damn domains a few weeks ago....Ouch! LOL and I also continue to trade stocks as always. Legendary Lars and I are once again getting to be giddy as grade nine girls since the market has been on fire for 3 months. We are even starting to pee our frilly white panties.

and that is my big story :) Now you know the history of the guru-O-gif and sexswap.
