This is the story about how Adult Reviews .net was born…. The story about how it evolved into being more than just a spare time project.

How we crawled through the mud in our business and ended up where we are now.
I think we are some place in the middle of the hierarchy at the moment.

And there might actually be an economic interest in it for you…We have chosen to do it this way because it also adds some value to Sexswap – it’s not just advertisement, it’s also an interesting story. We are still considering our self newbies in many ways, especially of course regarding the things we haven’t played much with, but who isn’t a newbie in some ways? We can and should learn something new every day.

Now to the story:

As described in the previous issue, we were well on our way to reach the original goal – to earn some money off the site as well.
Up until now (mid 2002) we invested every dollar earned in new traffic and advertising. We were able to do so because we were both studying and therefore received financial support from the Danish government as all Danish students do. But after one year we thought it was about time to get something for our hard work. So we started giving ourselves a monthly salary. Although it wasn’t very much in the beginning, it was a nice supplement to the financial support which was barely enough to live on.
Another thing is that, as you might know Denmark has an almost insane income tax around 50% so you have to make quite a bit before you are able to live decently on it.

Our webmaster program still didn’t experience a lot of success, so we started offering it to the different sponsors we were using and some of the bigger players on the adult scene.

Among others we contacted Consumption Junction, and they actually sounded like they could be interested in using it. So we had some long icq discussions with them and had to convince them why it would be a great idea, especially in the long run.
We started out having links in all the columns on CJ, from which they sent traffic to our site with their own linking codes, just to try it out and see if it would make sense to market it even more. It turned out great and we came to an agreement where we would develop a special review section for Consumption Junction consisting of our review database, but with the familiar layout from Consumption Junction. And earlier this year we finally launched the complete version available at http://reviews.consumptionjunction.com .

That was a big thing for us; we were very proud that a well known site as CJ believed in our idea and actually wanted to promote it. Actually it is our impression that CJ are some of the guys in the industry that are open to new ideas. Hats off to you guys! :-)

Hello there young jimmy and old marge. There seems to be "obscenity" in the news a lot lately. I do not wish to see this trend gain speed since it is nonsense. Obscenity is always "subjective!" and so broad that it is easily abused. We will have to watch and see where it is headed. Many big sites are crossing the t's and dotting the i's and cleaning house. Spam is also in the news daily since it all costs us huge time and money. I often wonder if porn spam is directly causing the increase in obsenity cases. I think people are exhausted by the amount of spam they receive, and particularily the porn spam. I have a great email to show you later form Andrew C to our congresswoman. He details an approach to spam that I think would go a log way in completely minimizing it. In fun tech new...the apple itunes site just keeps hitting the ball out of the park! 2M paid downloads in 16 days. That is simply awesome.

There are two fundamental reasons why the current theme of
anti-spam legislation have and will fail to curb spam:

1. Spammers, who are typically spam-and-run types or live
internationally, will continue to spam without ADV subjects,
valid return address, and disregard efforts to opt-out.
In fact, such legislation actually promotes spammers to
NOT add ADV subject lines as almost all email systems
pre-filter out ADV subjects. Many states already have
such laws, including California, while the number of spam
emails have increased.

2. Legislation does not require email to be authenticated.
Key to spammers is the current flaw in email - there is
no authentication of email (e.g., you can not guarantee
that the person in the "from" address sent you an email).
Not only can spammers get away with sending spam but the
unfortunate person who's email is put in the "from" address
is the target of vigilantes ready for a witch hunt (now armed
with your proposed bounties!). The solution would be to
legislate the use of authenticated email (a simple 3-step
process where the recipient's email host sends a confirmation
note back to the sender's host before the sender can resend
the email with the confirmation number). With this in place,
it would be almost impossible for a spammer to fake his
or her email location and therefore enable them to be reported.

Absent to many proposed legislation is also a mechanism to
protect companies that maintain and use their opt-in
membership lists. What protect legitimate companies who
send out email from someone claiming spam and attempting
to collect on a bounty? As email accounts have fairly
high turnover rates (a few percent per year change hands)
and people forget what services that they have opted-in,
it is easily possible that over 1% of ANY opt-in list
will contain people in these two categories alone. A company
that has over 10 million double-opt-in members would
then have over 100,000 people who might claim spam!

I was reading a thread over at GFY last week started by a guy who had a gallery on the hun that was burning bandwidth and converting shit who was worried that if he changed the page he'd get banned. I've been there, done that and got the bill. Now I link to a page on my own server and use meta refresh to go to the sponsor, so if ones not converting I can change to another without getting banned anywhere. The hun won't take galleries that use ARS, CEmags, etc as a sponsor, so meta refresh is a great workaround.

Now Disney is moving forward with it and I think it will be a hit. I would love to order DVDs online $5-$10 each, that would work in a DVD player for a week and then degrade to the point where they fail.
