News Tips Trix

This is the almost weekly SexSwap News-Tips-Trix and it goes to all members of SexSwap and SexSwap2 and AsianSwap and GaySexSwap and SexSwap2000 Banner Exchanges. It contains information on SexSwap, Porn, Tips'n'Trix, and software reviews for the adult webmaster. I perform all literary stunts without the use of nets, safety-cables, spell checkers, or grammar fixers, and this tends to leave the reader in a state of bewilderment...you will get used to it.

HOW ADULTREVIEWS.NET GREW FROM NOTHING TO WHERE IT IS NOW

Do you still remember your first signup or the first time you was listed at The Hun?

This is the story about how Adult Reviews .net was born…. The story about how it evolved into being more than just a spare time project.

How we crawled through the mud in our business and ended up where we are now.
I think we are some place in the middle of the hierarchy at the moment.

If you want to know, then read this story which will continue in the next 3 editions of Sexswap in the top and middle ad spot. And there might actually be an economic interest in it for you…

We have chosen to do it this way because it also adds some value to Sexswap – it’s not just advertisement, it’s also an interesting story.
To read from the beginning go to http://trix.sexswap.com/swap295.html

We are still considering our self newbies in many ways, especially of course regarding the things we haven’t played much with, but who isn’t a newbie in some ways?
We can and should learn something new every day.

Now to the story:

Well we survived our first The Hun listing and moved to a real adult host which seemed to fit our needs better. The support was great and we had tasted the taste of traffic. We knew there was much traffic in the adult business but we hadn’t tried it. It’s a great feeling looking at the growing numbers. Especially if you like peaking graphs. On the other hand, if it peaks too much without a growing income in the other end, it can end up being a nightmare instead. It’s not funny losing money each second which you would be if you spend more money on hosting and bandwidth than you earn by doing it. Anyway we pretty fast realized that it isn’t all that fun writing reviews of sites all the time. Sure it was great to look at pictures and videos of pretty women and all that, but at a certain point, it just becomes work like anything else. Especially if you are under pressure to be creative all the time. So it was time to find a solution for that. In the beginning we asked friends and other people we knew if they would be interested in helping us reviewing some porn sites, they would even get money for their time -- not just the free porn which is a reward in itself for some people. Some said yes and others said no. We still didn’t have enough reviewers, so we announced that we needed reviewers on a Danish website handling job advertisements for spare time jobs. It helped and we still occasionally get new reviewers from that source today. It was also at that point we decided to split the work in two areas. Jeppe should take care of new reviews, communication with the reviewers and make sure they did what they were expected to do. My job should then be maintaining the site, write the scripts and get traffic to the site. We were still freshmen in our business and didn’t have much clue about where to get traffic. The Hun was a lucky punch but besides that we didn’t know anything. We tried posting at AWI for a traffic manager, who should be responsible for getting traffic. We were lucky that an experienced webmaster Mato replied to the posting. We negotiated and ended up with 50% of the net income to him. Unfortunately the corporation had to end before it really started because he had to help his parents with their furniture store. I don’t remember the circumstances exactly, but it was important. Strangely enough, one of our reviewers had asked if we needed a person to handle traffic for now. And exactly now was the time where we needed just that. Very lucky for us… Or at least we thought so. It turned out, that it wasn’t great either… He was only capable of sending a little exit traffic from his own site plus spamming some groups at Yahoo so we got the server disconnected for almost a full week! We were of course not exactly happy with that and fired him the moment we found out what he had done. We explained the circumstances to our host and that we had ended the relationship with the traffic manager, so we got our servers up and running again.

After two attempts we decided to learn the basics ourselves and to let it take the time it took. The good thing with an experienced traffic manager was that he would know where to get traffic and quickly achieve results. The consequences of it were that it cost us a large share of the net income.
Well… Time to do the work ourselves… No easy way around it…

Good morning. Do you have your starbucks in hand? I do :) This week has been nothing but good news for the big dot coms that have weathered the storm. They are now all steady and many of them growing at far better rates than brick and mortar. I think ebay, yahoo, and amazon are all going to have terrific years. The scary part of the news is that there are more and more odd obsenity stories. This week, sex toys are still against the law in Alabama. When will this nonsense end? When will we not be terrified of sex? I don't know but this year feels like we have gone backwards in time. Spam is getting on everyones nerves and now the heavy hitters are joining forces. As my good friend May once said "spam is bad karma". This is so true. I know some folks like to spam email for adult sites, but I continues to believe this is a very risky practice. A few months ago I talked to gus about building a Overture word mining tool. He was going to make it in python but got too busy. Well it just so happens that Dan from kloakit.com was thinking the exact same thing at the exact same time and he has written the freeware CGI Keyword Miner. Check it out below....I believe it will be a huge time saver. This and lots more!

on with the shoe :P

RE: SPAMHAUS from Chuc
Chuc writes
I've got an example of the problem with 3rd party filters, as illustrated in Gary's message. In his case, they're using Spam Assassin with Spamhaus.org's filter. Spamhaus filters on the IP address level. You won't see any mail sent from IP's in the Spamhaus blacklist. Although I have never sent out any spam mailings, Gary could not receive mail sent from any of my domains because Spamhaus has block blacklisted the entire range of IP's my hosting service assigned my domains. That blacklisting was put in place before I was assigned those IP's, apparently due to the spamming of some previous client of the hosting service. So, my mail is legitimate, but Spamhaus won't let you read it. I can't even receive messages sent from support at my hosting service if they pass through the Spamhaus filter.

continued from Adult Reviews .net top spot

We started looking for traffic sources and heard everywhere that search engine traffic was the best. But it was also the hardest thing to get.
That’s true, SE traffic isn’t something you can just turn up and down for at will.
After a little study we ended up realizing the Pay Per Click engines was something we could use.
We started using Overture, opened an account with the default $50 on it. It seemed to work; when we bought traffic from Overture we saw sales in the other end of the process. Great news so we expanded on the PPC-SEs, at first more keywords at Overture then Findwhat, Kanoodle and 7Search. ePilot for some reason was a failure… They didn’t have any adult traffic so we wasted $50. But a month ago or something I got a notification from their system that the account was empty. It took a year to spend $50 there. Today I just got a mail from our new account manager that they have lots of traffic now, 300 Million searches a month. I think we will give them a second chance because PPC traffic is good – as long as you watch it closely. You can burn a lot of money in no time bidding on adult, porn and sex – it took a little more effort to separate the good from the bad traffic on the PPC engines.

Together with PPC we got a new problem… We needed money to invest on the PPCs. We had money on our account but our VISA with a $2000 monthly limit had a rough time. We got the first Mastercard with a higher limit which worked for half a year, then it wasn’t enough anymore either. We got another Mastercard and that’s still the current situation. Meanwhile playing with the PPCs we were also looking for other sources of traffic. I wrote mails to the freehosts we could find, 1/5 of them replied with their crazy price structure so we dropped that idea. Anyway if you run a freehost we might still be willing to try your header. Contact us if you are interested.

We tried buying some 404 traffic, 200.000 as far as I remember… That was also a bad source… Later we found out that some felt they had been cheated by the same source… I don’t know if we were cheated, and today I don’t care.

Exit traffic was also something we tried buying, but nothing worked as good as the PPCs. Today it’s changed a bit -- some actually send us exit traffic with good results.

We were still looking for new sources of traffic… Who isn’t?
If you have suggestions for what we should try, feel free and drop a mail with your hints. We have thought of contacting some big AVS players to try our WM program (http://adultreviews.net/webmasters/) but I haven’t taken any action on that area yet.

Now back to the story… We are now in about January 2002. We had learned that PPCs were great, and so was of course real SE traffic, but that’s not something you buy. And by now the amount of reviews at our site had grown considerably as well as the revenue was getting bigger.

The story will continue in the next edition on this Sexswap newsletter managed by Andy Dunn.
Meanwhile take a look at the site in question – http://www.adultreviews.net if you haven’t already seen it. If you do have, well there are always new reviews to read.
- And a webmaster program to signup for so you can try it out. $0.08 pr raw click your traffic can generate the first 14 days. Then you have to add your own sponsor codes, or make a deal with us about continuing the trial deal. That’s only if we think your traffic is worth it of course :-)
Anyway, over and out for now… Remember to read the next part in the next edition of Sexswap.

Greg rants about how he would like to save time by signing up once and being signed up with all new affiliate programs. I had the same problem myself. I learned that if you sign up with ACPay.com pay processor - you don't have to sign up with each affiliate program that uses ACPay - you are already signed up with them. In other words, if you send traffic to the id of any program in ACPay system, you will get paid...

I made a perl script that uses Overture's suggestion tool to mine keywords. You input a keyword phrase (or a list of keyword phrases), tell how many levels down to go, and how long to wait between each query and then it goes. Do you think people would be interested in that? I want to release it as a free script, but I don't want to deal with support issues. I put a link to the source code here

PROTECT ACT 2003 from Allen
Allen AMVC.com writes
thought this might be of interest. i know it's a lot of
text, but some of it affects our porno brothers and sisters :) this is
from our law firm:

Yesterday President Bush signed the Protect Act of 2003. Protect in this
instance is one of those pretentious acronyms politicians slap on
legislation when they are not naming it after small children.

In this case the act is a grab-bag of anti-pornography ideas. It takes
another crack at banning electronically generated images of minors
engaged in sexual acts, amends section 2257 to include record keeping
related to such images, tightens various criminal sentencing ranges and
judicial discretion in sentencing, and enacts a truth in domain name
section that makes it a criminal offense to knowingly use a domain name
with the intent to (1) deceive a person into viewing obscenity on the
internet, or (2) deceive a minor into viewing on the internet material
that is harmful to minors.

We are giving the legislation a more detailed review and looking into
the legislative history of it to be able to give you a fuller analysis
of the implications of the law for doing business. Our initial
impression is that, like most of Congress previous forays, this bill may
be unconstitutional in a variety of its provisions.|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This card would be a perfect match for a new shuttle case. I bought the exact same case AND they have gone down like $50 since last time. I put in a P4 2.66 and a gig ram. I foud a black faced Plextor CD writer and it was even DVD and I did not know it. Here are a bunch of goofy build pics
