Rather than shove on in, here is an old-school sans advertisement sexswap news ;) Now if you haven't been getting sexswap news for the last 3 weeks and then got it today, here is why. Normally I trap bounced emails in a giant filter file. I upload that to the server once a month. Normally it scrubs about 200 emails from the 5000 active. Well three weeks ago the bounce file scrubbed 931 emails! I had fits! I don't know why they all got captured but I estimated that 10%-15% of active readers got scrubbed. Friends began emailing me "where is my sexswap news damnit! Finally a week ago, Daniel figured out a way to reverse the scrub in the DB...Ya Dangerous Da! I am excited about the stock market. I don't know why but I think 2003 will be huge. I think the market is coiled and ready to spring. I went to the mall last week to buy some crud with the wife. There was not a parking spot...it was like christmas. Its 4:30pm on a sunday and we go to Chevy's, our favorite mexican restaurant, and there is a freaking live at that time. People have jobs and people have coin. The market is being held down by fear, not financial data and fear cannot go on forever.

Have you ever added the google search box to your site? Once they spider my sites, I like adding them. Its really not too hard. Here is where you login and find where to do it. You can even add your logo.

Once you get the code to paste, you can edit the buttions and things. One thing I tried to do recently, is to create a mini search engine for a hobby site. I have tried this a few times but it doesn't come out as planned. As best I can tell...google will not let you feed in more than one url per search. It would be very cool if you could take like 20 urls to mak a niche engine and search them all for all your sites to move traffic around. I can't find a way to do it. You can have all the urls, but the searcher has to pick one to start. Here is an exmple of a site I made to attempt this

I have 20+ sites in there but you can only do one at a time. You can control the front page, but the result page gets to be a mess of toggle butons. You might find this useful to give people more information and searchability of your adult and mainstream sites.

Hello, Andy. I'm a little concerned about the implications of the New Paypal
User Agreement. I've compared the new PayPal agreement to the old one, and a
big flag for me is the word "obscene" on the new agreement. Since
"obscenity" is such a subjective word, and what is considered "obscene"
varies from state to state, the appearance of this word in the new Paypal
agreement makes me feel a little bit uneasy.

My fears about this new development are based on ebay's adult content
history. I remember when ebay had the adult audiences category pretty
openly, with only an age disclaimer. I also remember an email they sent me
around the year 2000, when they said they were getting rid of adult auctions
altogether, and that my account was being closed down. Then they changed
their mind and re-opened the adult audiences category, with a more stringent
age filter, and lots of (almost impossible) rules to comply with.

Get this, I knew I wasn't supposed to have photographs that depict sexual
acts, or even text that depict sexual acts on my ebay ads. Photos of boobs
are okay, though... but you know mine still haven't grown yet. So I posted
an ad with a photo of me, fully dressed in a really short miniskirt and a
t-shirt. Not allowed to write about what happens in the video, or post photo
captures of the video itself, I had to express the content of the video
somehow so that bidders know what they're in for. So I put the letters "XXX"
on the photo and my title said "hardcore." No dice. They shut my auction
down for the letters "XXX" and the word "hardcore."

So you see my concern about this new Paypal user agreement. I've got really
nasty videos on a Paypal shopping cart at www.MaysVideos.com - What
is obscene? Is it based on my community standards or my customers'? Who
decides what's obscene? How is Paypal going to enforce this? I think this is
a legitimate concern, and hopefully you and other webmasters can make me
feel better about keeping Paypal. I really like Paypal, so I'd hate to lose
it.

If anyone wants to share their opinion on this, please email andy@lips.com and I will add it next week. I personally think this is an escape claus that PayPal wants to have to get out of trouble if they see fit. I think they want to straddle the fence and have porn, but if things get funny with the fed, they want to be able to axe the accounts and not get sued senseless. Time will tell where this all goes. It is shocking how it is 2003 and we still fear sex and nudity. Here is a perfect example

If you're moving tarballs it's faster to Gzip it usually first. That is if it's a lot of text in the tarball.

gzip -S .gz tarball.tar

Will do ya right. Especially when moving large sites with a lot of pages. Text compresses well. Dir's of images don't compress at all so it can be skipped. Also on using the -v option things go a LOT faster if you turn that off. Especially when untarring.

I thought I would drop my two cents on the TARBALL section. I've been trying to teach myself linux over the past year or so, and have like 20+ text files with little "how-to's" so I can refer to them later :) One of them take the tarball thing one further.

If you tar up stuff in the manner that you mentioned in the newsletter, it
works just fine... but leaves the filesize exactly the same as the
originating files. So here's one better:

to tar and compress a directory:
----------------------------
tar -zcvpf directoryname.tgz directoryname
* obviously, this will tar and compress the entire directory "directoryname"
into a file called "directoryname.tgz"

to decompress the tar zipped file to whatever location you want:
-------------------------------------------------------
tar -zxvpf foo.tgz -C /location/to/put/output

Now the files will be much smaller since they'll be compressed, thus easier

to transfer those honking big 2gb files :)

Wauw, that is not easy...taking into account the big www. I have checked out all (50) adult webmaster resources sites...and none >offer me this...I found www.sexindexed.com usefull, but no info on country nor traffic... I guess I could buy some fancy research for $20,000...but that is kind of difficult right now :-)

and what would that info give you? It would not be worth the $20k since you would gain little by knowing that. I would just go to counters and try to find the highest sites. I think the task you are after is difficult and no one knows the asnwer since adult sites are never cut and dry...there are feeder sites, 40 sites in an unbrella portfolio, and different ways to collect hits. You might try alexa for a small gauge but it will not be very accurate. There were some lists long ago...but they were not accurate either.

I came more or less to the same conclusion and I am already using ALEXA now for about two years, the problem I find is that it is mainly US traffic that is counted, on German sites for example, Alexa ranking is really not very reliable. However it is also the best, and most universal tool I have found. Sextracker stats seem to be OK according to some webmasters, but then again too limited. Why do you think that a rapport like for example one of Netvalue (or even ALEXA itself) wouldn´t be its money worth? Not reliable enough due to the technology they use, not relevant for adult webmasters? Too early to gather that knowledge?

here is something I just learnt in linux. When you have a new HD, the system does not really see it. If you load an OS on the HD from a CD, for example, the system formats the drive, usually in ext2 or ext3. I had a spare HD as a backup and did fdisk /dev/hdd on it, but I could not figure out why it would not mount. later I found out that I needed to

mkfs -c /dev/hdd1

and that actually formats it in ext2. I then boldy tried

mkfs.ext3 /dev/hdd1

and that did the fancy pants type of file system and everything mounted up just great.
