The start of the new year continues to be kind of quiet. There are some scary rumblings in 3rd Party billing and I added some links below to the stories and webmaster debates on the subject. One new site that caught my eye this week is the latest moves from my old pal "KidSlick".

TOURS FOR TESTING
here is an idea I was just thinking about testing today. Many sponsors now have "alternative tours" into their main sites. These tours are different style front-ends that you can send traffic to in order to see if you do better than the default front. Now normally, I'd bet 9 times ouf of 10 the default wins....the site owners test front-ends all the time and so they want to make the most money and almost always have the best front, but it never hurts to test. And so, you can test aiming to the alternative tours in order to improve your sign up ratio. The one link that has me thinking this week is the "random" tour. I think it might lead to faster testing results. For example, lets say you get 10 signups a day on the default links. You then test the "random". If you get 8 signups on random, you know that you have one of the "better" front ends. You might not have the best one, but you have one of the above average ones. If you test against the random and get 12 signups...now you have work to do. You have a below average link and you will want to try one or more of the other tours to try and beat the random. If you are below the random, you have choses a below average tour. I like the idea of this test rather than testing every front end just because I am lazy and you will get meaningful results sooner. thoughts? email me and I'll add your comments to next weeks letter andy@lips.com

=D I get asked this in email once a week or so and I can't tell you exactly, but I will hint at the things I am trying to suck traffic out of at this point in time ;)

1. BLOGS
I am convinced blogs make for an awesome natural way to spam search engines. It is all content that you write with your lips. The traffic is not fast, you have to commit to daily banter and you may not see any results for 3 months. I think blogs work with ANY style of website, mainstream or adult. I have made sites both ways....I love blogging now. If your sites are mainly text based, blog software makes daily updates fun and not a chore.

2. GOOGLE
I continue to gamble on adwords with 11 campaings. I had a great start to January but have started to suck turds for 1 week. I fiddle around with google ideas often

3. URL POPPERS
If I can think of a damn place I can shove or test and url popper, I do it. My P2P experiments continue to be a struggle. I might give Kazaa a try this week. I uploaded 13,000 url pop movies onto Bearshare last week and got 300 freaking hits. The cheesy embedded video players hack up the pop and the hits get thwarted. Same deal with shareaza. I am hoping Kazaa is different.
