Our google archive search function is temporarily down. I expect it to be back up in december. If you ended up here by searching google, this is because all error 404 pages come back to this front page. You can still find the article below on the left if you click it diectly. Sorry about this inconvienience. We moved from the NT boxes to the UNIX boxes this month and had a jumble of .htm - .HTM and .html files and I wanted to clean house and make all the old trix newsletters consistant. The newsletters are all below. They will be respidered in late novemeber I believe.

so what happened is...we moved servers (NT to UNIX).....and so....I had a mish mosh of links and 30% of them were failing since UNIX is case sensitive. I was at Comdex this week in Vegas. The hottest thing there? The Segway!
After waiting for an hour in the line, I got to step up to a Segway. I
stepped on, and it immediately reacted to my leaning back and forth. After
about a minute of swaying, I started to get the hang of it. I was tearing
around the little test area trying to get it to throw me off. It didn't
want to, but the guy giving me the demo got a little freaked out when he
realized I was trying to get it to fail. All I could think about was
playing polo or hockey on it. You lean forward, it goes forward. You lean
back, it goes backward. The steering is on the handle and the sucker can
turn on a dime.

The guy said it was designed to carry up to a 250 pound man, which is the
dumbest decision I have heard - who do you think they're targeting with a
device designed to eliminate walking?

The specs they told me: It weighs 85 pounds, it's able to run for like 11
miles on a full charge. It moves up to 12.5 miles per hour and comes apart
to fit in a car. And MAN that sucker doesn't tip. They say it's due out
soon and has a price tag of $5000. Right now I think they're taking
preorders exclusively on amazon.

Bottom line? I'll get one the instant that I realize what I need it for.

CRACKING THE URL POP

For new readers or confuses readers with their heads tilted to the side and going "huh?"...an url pop might also be called an mpeg url pop. In windows, you can make a .wmv and some other formatted movies have an url in them. This means that once a movie is played, a browser window opens to any url you give it. You can specify when and how many urls pop.

We used Mutella for a week then stopped since we could not figure that out. We went to nut which is a little more hardcore programmer. You can hack gnut so that when ANYONE searches your box, you for a response ...hee hee hee. So if they search "Diet Coke", no matter what, they get shown X number of our movies. So originally we forced this to 4. We then tried 10...both were about the same. My bewst results have been with bearshare. I used 200 movies with 200 titles and esterday got 900 downloads.

there seems to be a few ways to play

1. force the result and have a small amount of results. this is nice and easy since you do not need many movies

2. take one movie, symbolic link it into 1000 movies, all with different titles, that you might use the log file to make. We never got to this stage

3. have 1000 different movies...a lot of work, but can be done

now get this...I get FAR better results, NOT being an ULTRAPEER. Ultrapeer is a bandwidth sucker. It did not help me at all. This is easiet to see with bearshare where they constantly give you a HORIZON number which is how many boxes are chatting with yours type of thing. In ultrapeer, I would get 5,000 - 10,000. In leaf I could get 13,000. Then yesterday I figured out you can make your leaf talk to more Ultrapeer...I went from 6 to 10 an wham! I had a 40,000 horizon at one point. So you might ask your Mutella buddy to see if you can alter the number of ultrapeers that your leaf can conect to...the bee's knees would be to allow this variable to grow over 10...it is hard coded not to pass 10 in bear.

but the BIG HUGE problem is not getting movies out...it is that they will not POP. I am prestty sure most people use bear...the stats files seem to indicate this

and Bearshare had video built in and if fucks up or personally stops the pop. Craig had a theory and I tend to agree that I think certain servers talk more to like servers...like maybe bearshare servers prefer bearshare servers...and so this may be why so many clients? But we had not better results running gnut or mut and so I think this is true.

let me know what you think of this. Maybe you or the Mut lad can solve an a way to get the pop...active X script embedded? I dont know but it seems to be the damn stubmling block.

2 FAST AND EASY WAYS TO MAKE MORE HITS

ERROR 404 REDIRECT
Why send your 404 errors to a 404 page? This is nonsense. There is NO MONEY to be made on the 404 page since you are not asking for the sale. Where do you make the most money? Your MAIN PAGE. I redirect all my 404 errors right back to the main page....jimmy will figure out the page is not there...send him to te page you MAKE the money on.

very cool, but you have to be really careful what people tell you on hits....for example, one of the cobra sites I go to gets 1,000,000 hits a month...but what they call hits and what I call hits are WAY different. I' want 1000 type in adult url hits a day more than I would want 1,000,000 chat board page hits in a month...so be very careful. There are unique, raw, an other ways to count hits and no two are alike. AND what is the cookie time...day? month?. pure raw unique hits to page one is my definition but they really are all different

Like I said...the problem is like HITS never equal HITS. Chat board hits are notoriously high in count and notoriusly watery in strength. if he was getting 1,000,000 search engine hits a month, I would pee my panties :) With income sites, it is alway dangerous to compare hits, click rates, and signups ratios. There just are too many variables that we will not be sure of since we do not own that site. You can make these comparisson with your own sites...but be cautious when comparing to others.

QUESTIONS RE: CLICK THRU RATIOS - DESIGNS - BLINK LINKS from Joe

Im sure you have done this before but maybe you can remind some of us old
feeble minded folks how to do some more effective marketing in your next
newsletter. What in your opinion gets better click through ratios, different
page designing ideas, blind links and such. Maybe a little test of various
techniques to see whats better. In this day and age its getting harder to
get people to click the ads like they used to. Sure would be nice to see
whats getting the money and whats not.

this is a large topic area so let me focus in on two or three ideas. These are my opinions, please take them with a bag of salt. I encourage everyone to research and decide on their own.

CLICK THRU AND SIGNUP RATIOS
To me, click thru ratios and signup ratios mean very little when comparing site A to site B and affiliate A to affiliate B. There are so many variables and so much smoke and mirrors that you cannot trust the data. If a person tells me he gets a 1.4% click ratio on a banner, or a 1/200 signup ratio...that means very little since we cannot control the data they are giving us. Their data is most likely much different than ours.

1. I do not have his exact traffic
2. I do not know how he makes his money
3. Every traffic stream is different

RATIOS - EXCELLENT FOR INTERNAL COMPARISON
Where click thru ratios and signup ratios really matter, is with your own traffic. This is where you can really compare. You CAN try two banners on your traffic and say "banner A got 1% click rate and banner B got 0.5% click rate with my personal traffic. Therefore banner A is better at getting clicks. The same is true for signup ratios. You can fire your traffic at two sponsors...count the clicks yourself, and see which gets a better ratio

I prefer to use ratios when looking at my own traffic. To use the numbers against other sites numbers can often be misleading or in error.

CLICK RATES AND SIGNUP RATIOS CAN BE INVERSELY RELATED
You could make a strong arguement that the higher the click rate the banner, the lower the signup rate and visa versa. Very direct banners with an exact message might get a low click rate but be very good at finding the exact buyers....where a more general banner that just says "Enter", might get strong click rates but have weak sign up ratios. Let the paycheck decide which is better for you.

LET THE MONEY DECIDE AT THE END OF THE DAY
when I test, I do try to improve click rate and signup ratio, but I let the money at the end of the day be the determining factor. Many times at SexSwap, I have emailed Dangerou Dan the following email... "Dan! I just made this killer banner with asian characters that says BIG BOOBS in japanese and it is getting a 2% click rate! We are gong to make bank!!!" Hee hee hee. And then I toss the banner into the system and it gets a honking 2% click rate....BUT....for some reason, we get no signups. Therefore, when you test, try to improve your parameters, but the big trump card is MONEY at the end of the day. Why improve signup rate if your total income goes down. Why improve banner click rate if your income goes down...keep in mind "money at the end of the day". This is the same with sponsors.....I do no car if they pay $20, $25, $30, $35, $40, $45 a signup......I care about the paycheck...which sponsor is going to pay me the most at the end of the day when I test my traffic there. Do not be fooled by large click rates or signup payment offers. TEST TEST TEST

ALL TYPES OF TRAFFIC MAKE MONEY
I have said this before and I will say it again....many types of traffic make money. Low signup-ratio traffic can make money, and High-ratio traffic can make money. A perfect example are my nasty stats that I am always babbling about. My sexswap traffic is a lower-ratio style of traffic

both types make money. I would not changed either. They are both dialed in the way I like them to be dialed in. I do try to improve both systems....but I know they are both very different and one will never be the other.

MY LATEST ODD TEST RESULT FINDINGS
One thing I have been testing lately, is the pre sell. I have tested this for years and 9/10, I am against the pre-sell. What I mean is.....I want the very sortest route to the sponsor as I can get and I do everything I can to shoot traffic right to a sponsor and let their sales pages do the work. Now I don't want to give away all the secrets today, but I stumbled onto this by accident really. I was testing site positioning in google and I decided to aim my type in traffic at a pre sell page or mini site, before it got to the sponsors pages. It is early to tell, but after 7 days, my singup ratio has doubled. This is a small account and this is not a scientific test, but I went from 1 signup every 2 days, to 1 singup a day on this certain test.

I decided yesterday to try the same test with google ad words....it is sucking turds...I think it is better to go direct with adwords.

Dan and I also plan to try the pre sell test with sexswap traffic in a week or two and see how it goes. I just thought the results were interesting and I wanted to pass them along.

and again, with all of this TEST TEST TEST. Testing is easy. How hard is it to test two banners? Ya I know it is boring, but hey...we are dealing with percentages and when you can gain a small percent, that means a lot to the bottom line. Pay Site Front Ends TEST

PAGE DESIGN IDEAS
I have said these items before and I will say them again. Please note that these are my opinions, take them with a bag of salt.

Long Flat Sites
I love sites that are long and one page. I always have. I made more money with this style first page. By long and flat I mean...one big long damn page that people scroll down to read. The opposite of this is short deep sites. This would be made pages with very little on them and you have to click a lot....people get lost when you send them clicking. The paysites I send my traffic to...believe in long flat frontends to their paysites. What is even better now is...before I used to hammer the 28k modem users with these sites...now many people have speed and these sites work better and better.

Light sites with dark letters
I prefer black on white. It is easy on the eyes and easy to read. Is your email client white with black letters? 99.99999% of you will say YES. Why? Because it is easy to read. make sites easy to read and easy to navigate. Yes red letters on black looks badass cool...but it is hard to make money on such a site since it is hard to read. My sponsors use light sites with dark letters...period.

Java and Flash are the work of the devil
I hate flash and I dislike Java. Yes they are both cool, and sure...if you have a fun fan site, they are damn fun. If you want to make MORE MONEY then use as little of these two items as you can. They slow page load times and they give the page one more chance to fail.

If you strip hotlink, you are leaving money on the table
I have tested this 300 ways from sunday, if you are so in love with your java skills that you strip the hot links from under words, you are costing yourself money. When you hide underline links, people do not know where to click.... PERIOD. I hate waving my mouse around to find the links on a page. Stripping the underlines will cost you clicks everytime. I know many of you do not believe this....all I ask is that you TEST. I have tested it more times that I care to. DO NOT HIDE YOUR DAMN LINKS :) I dont care if it looks cool. Same with mouse overs...these are not as horrible, but again, you better make if very clear where the links are if you do this.

yes, I am sorry to say...simple works. Basic html, clean links, white pages, and black text with default link coloring. Use your mad skillz to make groovy logos and great pics.

2 cups milk
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
