News Tips Trix
This is the almost weekly
SexSwap News-Tips-Trix and it goes to all members of SexSwap and SexSwap2
and AsianSwap and GaySexSwap and SexSwap2000 Banner Exchanges. It contains
information on SexSwap, Porn, Tips'n'Trix, and software reviews for
the adult webmaster. I perform all literary stunts without the use of
nets, safety-cables, spell checkers, or grammar fixers, and this tends
to leave the reader in a state of bewilderment...you will get used to
it.

EXPIRED DOMAINS v2.1 PRO
In swap251 Andy listed 18
ways to get traffic to your site. He forgot an
important one: Expired Domains. These are domains that the owner did
not pay
his yearly registration fee. Normally the owner is given a 7 week grace
period in which he can still pay. These domains are expired. Afterwards
the
domain is removed from the registry. Then we talk about deleted domains.
Allthough nobody is using
these domains, they often have serious traffic on
them.
There are three ways expired
domains will bring you traffic:
1) Being listed on searchengines and directories as Yahoo! Dmoz, Looksmart.
2) Type-Ins: people will directly type the domain name into the address
bar.
3) High link popularity; many sites still link to that domain.
Expired Domains Pro v2.1
covers all these kind of traffic and will find the
expired and deleted domains for you. Expired Domains v2.1 Pro consists
of
three subprograms:
ad 1) Seek Domains will find
all the domains listed on Yahoo! Dmoz,
Looksmart and Altavista for the search word of your choice. For instance
you
are interested in hosting. Seek Domains will generate a long list (often
1000's) of all the domains that show up on Yahoo! when you do a search
for
'hosting'.
ad 2) Type-In Domains uses
Overture's suggestion tool to generate a list of
domain names. For example with the keyword 'hosting' Type-In Domains
will
generate a list as 'webhosting.com' 'freehosting.com' etc... All the
searches that are popular on Overture and people are also likely to
type
directly into the address bar.
ad 3) Superb Whois will check
the lists generated by Seek Domains and
Type-In Domains on availability and expiration date. You can also run
your
own lists of domain names. You can check the Link Popularity with major
searchengines.
E.D. v2.1 Pro has a lot of
extra features I did not mention that makes it an
excellent tool for the professional domain hunter.

Large and turbo charged is
how I will described this week news =) Piles of stuff going on so let
me hit you with some fast previews of what is below. There are more
comments and stories on the Visa - 3rd Party Billing fees this week.
There have been more articles and ideas sent in on the always popular
Brute Force attack. There is the more news of Yahoo going with google
results. All Yahoo has now is a name and some good will. Did you hear
that Afternic shut down? Hey...I forgot to mention a month or two ago
that DaveCentral is gone...man I dug that joint. I think there is a
story or two on cheap domain registration. This week I also start off
with spewing about spider freindly blogs and message boards. If you
plan to spam the engines with a blog or board, you better buy the right
one or you will not get indexed mon frere. I have just started trying
to install a few blog and message board packages and am having fun.
I got UBB running and had GreyMatter almost running. I should have some
test stories on this next week. I plan to purchase a UBB licence this
week as well since I like that product.
I got an interesting snail
mail letter today from a lawyer. He wrote "did you know someone
has the domain name wwwlips.com and could be stealing your business.
We can take a domain name theft for a flat fee of $5000.". It looked
legit. Seemed like an interesting way to drum up domain squatter client
lawsuits. I am sure fortune500 people lose sleep over domains like that
but I think in the small biz and adult world, every combo of every name
has been done 600 ways from sunday and it would be easy to drop a pile
of coin fighting suits like that.
ok, enough bla bla bla. here
we go

NON SPIDER FRIENDLY BLOGS
AND MESSAGE BOARDS
This week I have been fiddling around with UBB classic demo. I was able
to install it with the help of young Craig the programmer. The only
snag I hit was that I had to add the following line to my apache httpd.conf
in the virtual host paragraph where I was testing the site
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/var/lib/apache/htdocs/pokerlads/cgi-bin/"
If you want to try and set
up the demo on your box to start a blog or message board, you can find
it here.
www.infopop.com/products/ubbclassic/trial.html
Now I know there are many
other great message boards systems. My compaint is with ALL of them.
The problem with all the new message boards systems is...they are all
php and mysql based, which is very robust BUT this sucks dry turds when
trying to use a blog to spam search engines. Let me give you some examples
Here is an older UBB board
back when they stored all posts as .html
bbs.simonsays.com/bbdocs/Forum15/HTML/003749.html
I can now search that link
on google and actually find it
smlnk.com/?0T2HQSI5
Now let's try a a modern
board using php like gfy
www.gfyboard.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42042&highlight=ia2000
now let's go to google and
the page is not found
smlnk.com/?V6H7BX8Y
ok, more proof...here is
a sentence from the first example on that star trek board
"There are some Unreal/UT maps which "fake" ladders"
Google finds it
smlnk.com/?Z5YKEMG4
Now a sentence from the gfy page above
"guys from the UK industry looking to meet new players in the US"
Google finds nothing
smlnk.com/?FUZZ7DY3
I want to BLOG and I want
to SPAM the heck out of the engines....HOW DO WE DO IT?
1. Do any of the robust modern blogs and message boards have a feature
to archive old posts as html static pages?
2. Are there any blog or
bulletin board packages that are cool, robust and html based?
Yes php and mysql are superior
to perl and cgi...but the goal is often to "make money" and
spamming the engines via blogs and boards etc, if a fine way to get
traffic. give me your thoughts =)
(2 days after writing the
above questions, I discovered some solutions. Here they are in the next
4 stories)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
WHAT IS A BLOG?
I know most of you now know what a blog is. 12 months ago I bet most
of us had never even heard the term. Any week I write about blogs I
get emails asking "hey, what the hell are these damn blogs".
Here is my favorite definition
"Simply put, web logging,
known as blogging, is an easy way of updating a web page via a browser
without the hassle of launching an FTP client or HTML editor."
...Biz Stone
A blog is just an easy way
to write stuff on a webpage. You do it with your browser, rather than
breaking out GoLive, FrontPage, or DreamWeaver. You can access your
blog from any computer and update your site remotely very easily. So
websites have not changed...a blog is just a software tool to make adding
content to a website very fast an easy.
I would also add that a blog
is often a story from one person to many people. Where a message board
or bulletin boards is many to many. Some message board packages can
be used as blog software and some blog software can sort fo be used
as message boards.
Why am I so fired up about
blogs?
1. EASY. They make website
maintenance very easy. You can add to your site in the blink of an eye.
This means you post more stuff more often
2. TRAFFIC. These are a simple
way to make lot of pages that get spidered and you then get a lot of
traffic to your site
3. HOT. Blogs are the hottest
thing since sliced bread and the biggest web innovation in the last
1 months.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
WHAT IS A BULLETIN BOARD
OR MESSAGE BOARD?
A message board is a site where many people share ideas. Before message
boards were usenet newsgroups and list servs. Message boards are just
the latest devlopment for having many people communicate with many people
on the web. Message boarsd have gone through three stages of evoltuion.
EARLY BOARDS
remember the old ynot. you would post a message and then next message
would appear over that, and the next message would appear over that.
This all started probably because Matt's Script Archive had WWboard
1.0 which is gone now
www.scriptarchive.com/wwwboard.html
That board had posts that
looked a lot like Kid Slick's Amateur Master's Board
chat.amateurmasters.com/public/ChatView.cgi?T=0
THREADED BOARDS
thing then evolved. People wanted categories. People did not want to
read every message, only certain ones. Categories appeared and boards
got threaded. Here is an example of threaded topics....this is not really
a message board but google's representation of usenet groups
smlnk.com/?J81UIADO
DYNAMIC THREADED BOARDS WITH
DATABASE BACKENDS
and this is where we are today. Many message boards are threaded, produce
pages in php, and have mysql backends. They are tough as nails and can
handle mega loads. The trouble is...they suck dry turds when it comes
to search engine spidering. GFY uses one of these modern excellent message
board systems
www.gfyboard.com
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2 SPIDER FRIENDLY BLOGS
Holy lighting mud. 2 days after writing the above gripe, I have been
researching like a wild man and have some great finds! Wooo Hoooo. Peeee
Poooo! Here are two blogs that are spider friendly. The first is a very
old blog package that has been used on thousands of sites.
GREY MATTER
open source weblog blog journal software
www.noahgrey.com/greysoft/
and here is a much fancier
package that takes a slightly different approach. The nice thing about
this package is that you can output the pages many ways suck as static
html or php mysql xml etc.
MOVABLETYPE
weblog blog journal software
www.movabletype.org/
and again, the nice thing
about these two blog packages is that they store pages as pure html.
Google loves html. If you are going to all the effort to set up a blog,
you might as well get listed in the engines and get traffic since it
is a subtle or subversive way to spam a modern search engine.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
SPIDER FRIENDLY MESSAGE BOARDS
It was a little tougher finding spider friendly message boards. I thought
I had found 5 of them but they all quickly seem to be abandoning static
pages which is disappointing. I would love to see them all add an option
to convert archives to html just for spidering purposes.
the one board I found was
good old Matt's, but it is really kind of old =)
MATT'S WWW BOARD
www.scriptarchive.com/wwwboard.html
if you know of any others,
please let me know andy@lips.com
Now I did find one more and
plopped my pants when I found out it was still available. You can actually
get old versions of UBBclassic in their members area. This means that
for teh fee, you have access to the last 6 versions. The version wanted
is 5.47c I went into a live chat session with their tech support people
to find this out
Please wait for a site operator
to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Jeff'
Jeff: Hello, how can I help
you?
you: yes. I like UBB, but I dont like the new version....do you sell
the old version 5.54 that is spider friendly and writes pages as static
html
Jeff: We offer the last 5 series in our Members area.
Jeff: which would have been 5.47e
you: ah..so if I buy a licence...I am allowed in there?
Jeff: That is correct.
you: and so my pages whould be stored like this UBB
you: bbs.simonsays.com/bbdocs/Forum15/HTML/003749.html
you: that is great!
you: thank you
Jeff: No problem
and so to make a spider friendly
message board, I will be trying UBB 5.47c

I MADE OVER $8000 FROM NASTY
IN SEPT (SEXSWAP)
The SexSwap traffic continues to do well with asty. I am not only write
ads about Nasty, I freaking send my traffic to them. I love the NastyDollar
sites. The girls are awesome and the guys go out of their way to give
the customer excellent vaue. I plan to talk more on this next week.
Watch for an article in the future SECRETS OF THE MODERN PAYSITE. Nasty
does all these secret keys. This is why they can payout $35 a signup.
Here is the SexSwap blind banner traffic (again, remember this is blind
banner, heavy TGP traffic and this is why the ratios are low)
trix.sexswap.com/nasty_sept.gif
Now some of you have sharp
eyes and have stated "Hey, you said you make $10,000 in May, so
why did it go done". You are a sharp one Wile E Coyote. Here was
May
trix.sexswap.com/nasty1.gif
There are two main reasons
we have dropped a little
1. Banner Click Rates dropped
In may my average banner was pulling 0.7 - 0.75% and last month it had
dropped to 0.65 range. I since have been testing and got that back up
2. Selling Traffic
You may recall that I've
state in my many traffic selling blurbs that we make X amount on our
traffic and if anyone will pay me X+1, well hell, I will sell. We sold
a good chunk of traffic in May and continue to sell quite a bit today.
Today for example, all SexSwap1 and SexSwap2000 traffic is sold to buyers
for the next 2 weeks. These two reasons caused the drop.
I MADE $3990 FROM NASTY IN
LAST 15 DAYS (PERSONAL)
Now you are saying "Andy, those ratios you showed me earlier were
low. I am scared. I want my mommy." Don't have a conniption fit
their young Yolanda. In this world, there exists all types of traffic.
I also use Nasty on my personal lips.com traffic tricks, and can show
you the other side of the ratio spectrum. How does 1:440 work for you.

I ain't just givin' you the
business. I do send my traffic to NastyDollars. Weak or Strong, Nasty
works for me.

RE: BRUTE FORCE AND BRUTE
PASSWORD TEHFT from Stephen
Stephen writes
I think I didn't explain what I meant when I said "effectively
blocks 100%
of brute force methods"...The point of using picture validation
is to make
it impossible for a cracking program to ever get a valid username and
password combination. So I assumed that crackers at least most of them
would
see, or after a while see, that they will never get a valid username
and
password combination without entering what's in the picture and stop
or not
even run their program in the first place.
Any post-attack protection
like Pennywize is going to work but you are
stilling being attacked...
Picture validation is a visible
protection its not a backend protection a
cracker has eyes and would move on...at least if he's not blind.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
RE: BRUTE FORCE PART III
from Stephen
Stephen writes
Johnny finds a website he wants to brute force
Johnny sees that this website
uses picture validation and Johnny knows that
his autologin thingamagig is useless because it can not parse the image
so
it will never get a valid username and password combination
Johnny does not even try
to brute force this site and moves on to another
site not using picture validation
That's the difference between
picture validation protection and post-attack
protection...

PAYSITE MARGINS TOO THIN
from Wow Pictures
Wow writes
big news in Sexswap this week. I will probably
take all day just to read it and respond.
Regarding the new Visa rules:
Reading the boards and
seeing how many people say they will have to stop
taking VISA speaks VOLUMES about how little money many
paysites make.
Even the tiniest brick and
mortar store run by mom and
pop has to take credit cards and paid 2 or 3 thousand
dollars to get a merchant account, and pays a couple
hundred a month in fees.
Paysites that can't afford
a few hundred dollars to
continue accepting credit cards are not really in
business. They are just someone's hobby.
Raising the barrier for entry
into this industry is a
good thing. Everyone should have to get a merchant
account.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
REGARDING PAYPAL from Darin
Darin writes
In response to this newsletter someone mentioned PayPal is affected
by the
Visa issues. This is NOT true. I have confirmation direct with them.
Each

therefore are only transactions between pay pal users. They are not
affected.

Andy writes
there is nothing to stop that....but they would need a lot of credit
cards I believe...but yes, that certainly could happen anyway
Wildcard writes
That way giving the webmaster a bad ratio and getting him kicked off
of Visa? that point I would assume the big guys would then run to Globill
or a few of the others you mentioned in your last news letter.
Andy writes
yes, that could happen but is kind of unlikely because
1. they would need several cards
2. they would start getting a lot of charge backs on their cards after
a while and Visa would drop them for being crooks
3. they would have to want to break the law and few do

Dave
Dave writes
One quick and easy tool I like for promotion is the use of top lists.
There are tons of them everywhere and they usually offer a free listing.
I watch the traffic from the lists and I monitor how my site rating
is going up or down, and when they become inefficient, I drop them and
look for new top lists to join. The big drawback is usually that clicking
the links at any top list almost always provides a site that's just
another top list, so finding a good list to join that actually sends
traffic is a time-consuming process. I'd be interested in seeing if
your readers could share an accumulation of "working and useful"
top lists.

Okay I've known lots of you for years now. I remember when many of us

I
started in relation to other industries I'm in. What suprised the heck
out of
me is the overhead/net ratio for pornmeistering is so far ahead of the
pack
it's astounding. I got into this business as a lark because the regular
comic
book/animation industry was full of such shit I wanted to have the freedom
to
do what I wanted. Now the regular comic book/animation industries are
FUBAR.
Now the years have gone on and I've noticed a consistency in those of
us
pornmeisters still here. Basically two traits:
Tenacity and 'fuckitalltohellism'
So after all the hoops you've
had to jump through, all the system crashes, cc
changes, public rants etc. the big questions remain:
Was it worth it becoming
a pornmeister? Are ya better off now than you were
then? What things occured that made you successful while others hit
the skids?
