I forgot to tell you last week...you know those California fires on the news? Those are 38 seconds from my house! I was writing last weeks Swap News and ash was falling from the sky. Mt Baldy is right behind my hermit cave! The fire is out now since we have had winter like weather. The ash was kind of neat but also a pain in the ash. The first day I ran out side and looked up into it....like a kid would do in a snow storm. I got a chunk of ash square in the eye....I was squeeling like a baby for my mother. That stings =) Then your pool gets filled with a layer of messy ash goop. You also walk around feeling like you puffed a pack of Camel unfiltered.

Its a quiet week. There have been some neat stories though. First, in one court case, upskirt cams have been ruled legal. Then Visa is once again setting stricter rules for high risk merchants aka porn. You might of also heard that the Bum Fight movie producers were arrested. I was reading through the brute force attacks special edition page you made
a while back and I came to the conclusion that current protection methods
assume a cracker is able to run his cracking program on your site and then
try to protect you after the fact. So the best method would be one that
stopped the cracker from even running his program. There was mention of some
how hiding the login to your members area but I don't see how that could be
done.

Then I remembered something I had been seeing none adult sites doing, such
as yahoo, ebay and others, on their login pages they display a picture with
a word or a set of numbers. The person logging in has to enter what they see
and if they don't they can't login even with the correct password.

This effectively blocks 100% of brute force methods because a human can see
a word or a set of numbers in a picture that would be impossible (at least
now) for a computer program to parse. The picture is generated randomly on
the fly and is different for each login attempt.

The only downside I could see to this method would be that the image uses up
bandwidth and generating it takes up resources.

You can go to yahoo and enter the password wrong for an account (real or
not) and after a couple attempts it will show you a picture that you need to
enter to continue.

You know there needs to be more industry control exercised in the area of SPAM because all SPAM leaves a bad taste that people take out on others in the industry even when they have never sent out an unsolicited email message. All of these "bad" habits and practices, including those that think it is "effective" to put up scores of exit popups, are hurting the entire Internet industry with the adult end of the Internet taking probably more flack than it should.
