This week I have been popping urls here, there, and everywhere. After Marc's tutorial, I have been testing many news url popping tricks and techniques. I also wrote a baby step version of how I did my first encode for anyone who is still stuck since a few folks ICQd me who got stuck. Now, before I go any further, here is a warning tip for anyone using MS encoder 7.1 or 4.0....DO NOT and repeat DO NOT upgrade to beta 9.0 which came out this week. It will completely muck your computer up. I know because I did it. 9 works but is lacking all the great tools of the 4 pack like batch encode. If you go to 9, you can never return to 7 or 4. I spent 3 hours on the phone with MS tech for $245 and they finally said "you cannot go backwards". You literally have to erase you drive and reinstall the system. I installed the system over top of itself and that simply does not work.

I really think url popping can work for any site that has video...adult or mainstream. You distribute your free video, and then at the end the windows player pops open to your website. I think it is a nice, soft sell method of getting hits.

Tomorrow morning is the anniversary of 9/11. I have no idea what to expect. I only hope things are quiet everywhere.

I did find some more info on the encoding speed of Windows Media Encoder 9 Series:

We now actually expose different complexity (encoding speed) levels in WMEncoder 9. (There are totally 5 levels.) The default setting for file encoding is set to be at a high-quality but slower mode, since we want to make sure of high-quality encoding. (We do default to a fast mode for encoding live encoding.)

If you need to change the encoding speed, go to
Tools->Options->Performance in WMEncoder 9.

BABY STEPS FOR BEGINER'S MPEG URL POPPING from Guru-O-Gif
After reading Mark's tutorial from last week, I decided to hunker down and "pop" my first url. It is always tricky the first time. It took an email or three to Mark and I had finally succeeded. I have had ICQs and emails from other folks who are having a hard time popping their first url and so I wanted to write this BABY STEPS tutorial with screen captures and lots of hand holding for anyone still stuck.

No. 1
The first thing we need to do is download two programs available for free from Microsoft. One of the programs is called WINDOWS MEDIA ENCODER. We will use this to convert mpegs to asf files. The next program we need is WINDOWS MEDIA ASF INDEXER. We will be using that to add an URL to a movie. The first program is easy to find. The Indexer is hard to find since it is not available alone. It comes in a package called.

Encoder
go to this link and then in the SELECT DOWNLOAD bar, choose Windows Media Encoder. Take version 7.1 for this tutorial. I see 9.0 beta came out and I will have to try it

I can't find this on their site today, and so I think everything is going over to beta9. NOTE - I am not positive, but if you start with a small size clip and try to make it larger, like I did here, it takes forever. I think it is best to match the two sizes and things speed along better then. This is going to take 15 minutes for a tiny clip, I think because ot the size issue. Yet when I have done adult clips that were 320x320 to start with, they take maybe a minute for 5mb. I am not sure why certain files are so odd.

The Heidi dog video was talking 3 hours and so I have substituted in a firing up cobra engine small video. If anyone knows why the program does not like some files, please let me know since it seems rather odd. Maybe some Sony Mavica settings are not compatible.

if you have a script wich copy and rename the movies you need GB of space 1 of my russian wizards told me that instead using renamed files you can use symbolic links on your server. note this is off course only when you use the mutella method for posting newsgroups you need the actual files off course. it will help a lot of guys out as not everybody has 1000000000 Gb HD space. i will put the script online to do so also what you think

I dont know why it is so good but it actually is filtering like 95% of my spam and only catching a few real mails in the process..with a month of learning it should be 99% spam filter and no real mails filtered
it just plugs right into your outlook client. the key to cleansing the mailbox in my opinion is to bounce messages...this is a feature that this program does not have but the mailwasher program does...bouncing a message gives yu a chance to be removed from the system permanently. it makes it appear as if the email addrerss is dead

The site is important, but what is equally important is traffic and this is much harder to find these days than good site ideas.

To start off with the the beginning, you might try outlook express...its already on your computer and not bad for posting by hand If you want a nice newsclient a level above that...maybe MicroPlanet's NetGravity 2.5 which is free. Then if you want to start more serious spamming, you might try Postagent or PostXpert. The more powerful the reader, the faster you can get it trouble so go slow as you learn how much you can get away with =)
