This is the almost weekly
SexSwap News-Tips-Trix and it goes to all members of SexSwap and SexSwap2
and AsianSwap and GaySexSwap and SexSwap2000 Banner Exchanges. It contains
information on SexSwap, Porn, Tips'n'Trix, and software reviews for
the adult webmaster. I perform all literary stunts without the use of
nets, safety-cables, spell checkers, or grammar fixers, and this tends
to leave the reader in a state of bewilderment...you will get used to

you in the heat of the summer. It's a DRY heat. This week is blowing
the lid off the popper with member comments on MPEG POPPERS, BLOGS and
even pro-level CROOK DETECTION. I had to toss in a little tidbit on
those sexy babes "The Fontanas" and "Stephen the Dell

sounds like it should be pretty big by the amount of webmasters that
have written to me about it.

THE FANTANAS
Is it just me, or are the new Fanta ads not the most hella cool? You
take these 4 hot latina babes, and have them strutting around to techno
dance songs and you have a winner. The first time I saw an ad was last
night and I thought "damn, if this was a CD, I'd buy the damn thing"!
These chicks are cooler than all hell. In the ad, these young lads are
pushing an old chevy barracuda down the street in 120F temps and sweating
their nuts off when out pop these ultra sexy Fantanas! who save the
day with cool drinks. Those babes can strut. Way too fun =) I found
their site and might even have to change the old desktop to one of the
babes.

HELP? CAN THIS BE FIXED -
MY IE IS HACKED =)
My IE 5.5 has been hacked. This might be a reguistry hack? First, let
me start with a screen capture tip from Bruce since I used a screen
capture for this example.
SCREEN CAPTURE TRICKS
Some of you may not of ever tried this, but if you click PrintScreen
or PSc on your keyboard, and then open a drawing program like paint
or CPIC, then paste...there is your screen. Wel Bruce told me that if
you do an ALT PrintScreen, you get the active window only...very very
trick.
BACK TO THE HACK
for the last year, I have had to look at the tagline "the cartoon
beauty of sexual interourse" on the top of my browser daily

Although this is funny at
times, I am curious as how to remove it? Got the answer? please email
andy@lips.com and I will add it to next weeks letter.

THE MYTHS BEHIND 1/300 SIGN-UP
RATIOS
Ken writes
So why do you only make ..006 cents per click? That's the part I can't
figure out.
Andy explains
I have tried to explain this before and I will try again since I think
this is an important concept. I have always taken signup ratios with
a bag of salt. I am sure some of you think my signup ratio is turdsville
at 1/2500 or worse =) I like it there and this is the math behind the
reasons why.
Let me go back to the .006.
You might recall that "Michael" who sends his traffic to nasty
made roughly the same income for May using 1/10th the traffic. This
means that he is making 6 cents on his traffic. Now why does he make
so much at nasty per hit and I make so little? Well to me, these number
mean very little since all traffic has a different strength and there
are factors that determine the streght of a hit. What I care about is
the size of the check at the end of the month. $10k = $10k.
Why is my traffic so watery?
The reason is because I choose to make it that way by the banners I
select to use, and by the nature of the members of my banner exchange.
Could I improve my signup ratio? Yes, I could make it 1/1000 or better
tonight. Why don't I do that? The reason is because I have tested and
make more money the current way.
First. Let me make the example
simpler by artifically creating two examples
1. I could use a real banner
and get 0.25% click-rate, sending hits to Nasty. This traffic might
have a 1/1000 signup rate
2. I could use a blind banner
with a 0.75% click rate, and send these hits to Nasty and get a 1/2500
signup rate.
At the end of the day, who
makes the most money? Well let's assume I show my banner 4,000,000 times
in a day
4,000,000 * 0.0025 / 1000
= 10 signups
4,000,000 * 0.0075 / 2500
= 12 signups
If you just look at my signup
ratio in isolation, you would say that the first clicks are so much
better since they are 1/1000. In reality, I will take the 1/2500 signup
rate since it sends enough volume to more than make up for the lower
signup rate. It is only a 1/2500 signup ratio, yet I make $80 a day
more with the second system. I think many people miss this fact and
I have talked about it on several occasions. I want the most money at
the end of the day. I do not really give a rat's ass about my signup
ratio. The ratio cannot be looked at in isolation...it has to be considered
with the volume of traffic sent and the total income.
My points are
1. Sign-up ratios means very
little. Other important factors have to be considered such as banner
click rate and highest gross income combo at the end of the day.
2. Test Test Test. All the
BS talk in the world means nothing. Testing banners. Testing paysite
front ends. Testing new niches. Testing new pay methods. Testing is
the best way I know of to toggle the switched o make more money.
My favorite story about this
odd signup ratio and banner click rate relationship, is from the beginning
of internet porn, when I first started the banner exchange. At that
time, regular banners were getting a 2% click rate which was aweome.
Someone invented the first blind banner. Would you believe that for
a week or two, we were getting 17% click rates. It was freaking insane!
YES the 2% banners got much better signup rations BUT you could send
8X the traffic using the other banner. The signup ratio was easily not
8X worse. It was an easy call. I will admit that the call is not as
easy to make today.

MORE THOUGHTS ON THE POWER OF BLOGS from Niggle
Niggle writes
I'm more convinced today of the viability of a crossing of porn and
blog
after noticing that Siccash has just released several new sites like
"Bitch
Mobile" and "Cruise Patrol".
It's the whole "reality
porn" thing that Bang Bus started. I guess it's an
extension of the move to Amateur porn that started a few years ago -
people
wanted something "real". And lately, TV has been saturated
with lots of
Reality Shows, so I guess it was natural that porn started moving in
that
direction as well.
So yeah, if the big players
are realising the strength of of creating
personalised sites over faceless Mega-sites, then maybe Blog has a
legitimate role as a good upsell point.
Andy writes
I would agree completely. I just think the truth is stranger than fiction
and this is why reality does so well. People want to get to know the
girls...a blog shares a piece of the "movie star" with the
average Joe. I am suprised no holleywood star has done one...it would
make for a very popular site if your favorite start talked about what
they did each day. A fine example is MTV's "The Osbournes"
and the new Anna Nicole show on E!
www.eonline.com/On/AnnaNicole/?fdpop
People thurst to learn the
details on the people we watch, and admire, and fantasize about.

RE: MPEG URL POPPERS from
Craig The Programmer
Craig quotes
<snip>
I'm testing this as we speak.. I have about 20 files I created in my
shared folder in Kazaa, and BearShare. Surprisingly enough, they're
NOT getting downloaded like I would have expected. Ran the software
overnight and only got about 10 downloads. Maybe the key is to have
a couple hundred files -- more search results would definitely equal
more downloads?
</snip>
Craig writes
I think the first problem is that you use Kazaa =) One of the biggest
flaws with that p2p system is when you do searches it doesn't search
the
entire network. The system randomly picks supernodes (aka other users)
and
does it's searches that way. So you can actually search for something,
disconnect, reconnect and research the same item and get an entierly
new set
of results (plus I've came across many other negative aspects about
Kazaa
that got me to stop using them). My personal favorite for a p2p system
(which may help in distribution) is Edonkey (edonkey2000.com). Although
it
takes a bit of getting used to that network is MUCH better at propigating
files. I won't get into all the technical aspects of it but as a comparison
files I used to have available for upload via Kazaa were accessed a
heck of
a lot more in Edonkey....you may want to consider switching to that
to try
getting your videos out into the world.
Craig quotes
<snip>
And one more thing on this issue.. I know there's a way to attach descriptions
and/or keywords to a file as well. I don't know if it's done straight
through Kazaa (in My Kazaa), or if they're somehow encoded right into
the file itself. So maybe I'm not optimizing my traffic here by only
using descriptive filenames?
</snip>
Craig writes
There are ways to put descriptive information at the beginning of an
MPEG...not sure about a WMV. However the search algorithms Kazaa uses
mainly use the category/description/keywords from Kazaa itself (AFAIK),
not
from the file.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
RE: MPEG URL POPPER QUESTIONS
from Kevin
Kevin writes
Now that's not a ton of traffic to use as a judging tool, but that's
another problem... I'm having a tough time getting any large amounts
of traffic. I wanted to pose these questions to fellow webmasters using
this traffic tactic:
Kevin asks
1. What file swapping service are you using? (Kazaa, bear share, aimster,
etc..)
2. How many movie files are
you sharing? (I only have about 100 files, mostly the same file renamed
over a bunch of times)
3. Are you using the same
movie file like 1000x over, just renamed to something the searches will
pickup (like mpeg_fuck_sex_blowjob.mpeg) Or are you using many different
movie files?
4. What file sizes do you
feel get downloaded more often? ( I've been trying to keep my files
at around 1mb or a bit lower, but I'm not having great traffic results...
so maybe this isn't the key formula. )
5. Are you guys popping a
paysite URL, or are you sending the surfer to your free/tgp sites? I've
thought about this quite a bit.. and I started here trying to pop my
paysite URL. But then as I'm seeing no sales, I'm thinking that maybe
sending this traffic to my TGP site might not be a bad idea.
I mean, the Kazaa user is
looking for free shit as it is... so just maybe redirecting them to
a quality TGP site could result in some decent bookmarks or something?
Again.. questionable, and might be better answered by someone that has
done this for awhile. Just thought I would throw this by you and keep
the thread going. I plan on setting up a dedicated PC on my shared cable
connection here just running Kazaa and/or BearShare, with maybe around
1,000 movie files shared to see how it goes.

HOW DO YOU CAUSE POP-UP IN
KAZA OR P2P from Wyatt
Wyatt asks
You ever download mpegs from Kaza or any of the P2P networks, and upon
pressing play a pop-up windows pops up? Do you know how to do this?
Can this is also be done with other video formats?

that described how to code to pop ads in Windows Media Player. I can't
find the exact trick. Can anyone tell us the code or language that this

.asf
or if it HAS to be Windows Media Player....however it's pretty simple

POP UPS IN MOVIES by Phil and Craig
Phil asks
I recently stumbled across a few porn mpegs on Kazaa that somehow force
a popup window to open to a certain url everytime they are played in
Windows Media Player. Have you heard anything about this? I did a lot
of searching on the net and couldn't find a word about this anywhere,
but as it concerns the Adult internet industry I thought you might know.
Craig the programmer responds
it was the media player form movies ... .asf I believe is the extension.
You could add triggers to the videos to allow different things to happen
at any time in the video....one of which was open up a url. The software
to do this is located at microsoft's media player home site.

SHARING UNIQUE TRAFFIC IDEAS?

There's often been discussions on here about places other than your

for getting visitors.
As some of you know, I run
a site about the semi-imaginary life of Lara
mixing blog with porn up-sell. Lara actually has an authenticity about
her
and a fleshed-out character because of the blog aspect.
For some of my articles,
I cull tidbits of relationship advice from various
"how to meet girls" newsletters and websites. This week I
started posting on
some of these discussion groups as Lara. I don't spam them - I reply
to
relevant threads properly and just let my signature do the up-sell to
my

Don't have any traffic stats

interested to see if other people may have followed a similar path and
what
sort of success they had?

ROTATION OF BANNERS REFRESH
RATE from Scott
Scott writes
I was wondering what your view is on banner rotation timing, i.e is
there a proven/recommended best delay between rotating your banners
on the clients browser ? I know ICQ rotate the banner every 60 seconds
but personally I was thinking more every 30 seconds..
Andy writes
I personally feel that rotating the banner is a waste of time. The reason
it was done on sites in the first place was because of CPM prices where
showings were paid and so they altered showing to make more. I think
there is almost nothing to gain by refreshing a banner on an open windon.
Scott writes
cause every minute in internet time is well... a long time. I know a
important point here is bandwidth costs where the more rotations the
more bandwidth but still if reducing the rotation delay improves the
chance of a click.. it may be wroth it.
Andy writes
I tend to disagree. I find you have one chance at the sale and the added
overhead of the rotation script is not worth it. If you want to show
people more than one banner, I would personally put 2 sponsor banners
on the same page, rather than use a rotation script.

TO CATCH A THIEF from D.
Trees
D. writes
I've noticed lately that thieves are showing much more restraint than
they
used to. Perhaps it's a different cadre of porn hounds who steal user/pass
combinations, but nowadays I don't see multiple logins like I used to.
But the thieves are still
there. Stealing my content. Stealing yours.
What I've noticed recently
is a rash of stolen user/pass combinations that
are not being used simultaneously by multiple porn hounds. Rather, a
single thief will use the user/pass for one day. Then the next day,
a
different user will login for downloads. Doing this allows the thief
to
bypass much of the automated software out there that looks for multiple
logins. Automatons can't catch this kind of thievery. Only the practiced
eye will pick it out.
I purge my logfiles every
other day, and periodically grep them -- using
the command below -- to have a look at what's inside.
grep member* /var/log/access-log.latexfetish.com*
>> kill
Grep means Get Regular Expression
and Print. In the example above, I'm
looking through my logfile for type of hit to my member's directory.
They,
using the pipe command >> I write that information to a file called
kill.
The latter file can be opened by any text editor. Since I'm on a Linux
box, I use Pico. But you could use Notepad or SimpleText.
Several times I've found
something quite interesting. Here's a clipped
portion of the logins to my site.

I know this looks like so
much weird tech stuff to the non-Unix user, but
anyone can look at it long enough and see the problem: The same IP address
(mila1br1-ce2.mil.it.prserv.net) has logged in 14 times with different
usernames. All but one of those logins resulted int a 200, or successful
login. Only one was a 401.
A single Italian IP addy
shouldn't have 13 good logins. We all know that.
I disabled all 13 of the accounts and let the folks know that they'd
been
hacked. What's disturbing is that this isn't the only instance of this
that I've seen. Several other thieves have logged in the same way over
the
last couple of months, checking only for a 200 reply. Then he goes away.
But, then the thieves come,
one at a time, one day at a time. They show a
remarkable restraint. If it weren't for me grepping the logfiles
periodically, I might never have caught them.
And so might you have thieves
in your own system. If you don't eyeball the
logfiles every now and then, you'll likely be swamped with thieves that
you don't even know are there.
Feel free to write and ask
any questions.

INSTANT MERCHANT ACCOUNT
PROGRAM
Old time contributor Bob just wrote in with his very slick new site
idea. He has instant approaval for mainstream sites to become merchant
account agents. This means you can sell merchant account and get the
commish. What is extra cool is the instant approval.

MORE THOUGHTS ON WHEN YOU CAN ACTUALLY BUY TRAFFIC
I am suprised with the emails and ICQs I have been getting regarding
traffic. I thought my opinions and explanations were clear but I perhaps
have only made the issue cloudy. Let me re-state some of my opinions
and reasoning, and at the end, I will give you some examples where I
believe a site could buy traffic.
1. DON'T BUY TRAFFIC (yes
I am exaggerating)
I have said that since day one and it is one of my classic over exaggerations.
What I am really saying is that it is very difficult to buy traffic
in the adult and mainstream sectors. The reasons it is difficult is
because demand far outstrips supply, and this creates strong upward
price pressure. Then, only the top5% of sites with some inherant advantage
can make money on the higher priced hits. I guess what I am saying is
be aware that traffic prices are high and will continue to be high so
your site really has to be special to make a profit.
2. WHY SELL MY TRAFFIC
Why would a person sell traffic? A site would sell traffic when the
market to sell hits pays more than using the traffic internally or the
current revenue model. It's like when a farmer sells his orange grove
to KB homes so they can build houses on it. The market for the land
is worth more than the current orange crop.
3. HOW IN PRICE DETERMINED
one of my ICQ friends wrote me the following
"ok, can you tell me
what I'm doing wrong here?
100,000 sexswap hits = $1000
which according to you equates to 10 signups = $400
(net loss of $600)"
Correct but there are a couple
things going on here. The farmer has no reason to sell his land unless
he gets more for it than oranges. Why would I sell my traffic for the
exact amount I already make on it? That would be a zero sum gain. If
I make $600 on it, there would be no gain, and a shitpile more work
to sell it for $600 elsewhere. There is no reason to do this. Instead,
the only reason to do this is to "make additional profit if the
market will allow the increas in price.". The traffic must be priced
above $600 for their to be interest from the seller to do anything different
than he is currently doing.
and now the important part
that I have been giving more thought to
4. WHO CAN BUY TRAFFIC
A person can buy traffic if they have an economic advantage. I just
read about this guy who is the king of french fries in america "J.R.
Simplot". The guy is a multibillionaire and about 90 years old
now. Well he started with a potato farm. Hey then bought a lumber mill.
He then used the lumber to build a phosphate mine. From the mine he
created fertilizer for the potatos. You can see how he would have huge
cost advantages over the other potato farmers.
In adult, here might be some
examples of sites with above average profits
- paysite owned by a hosting company (low bandwidth costs)
- paysite owner by strip club (low content costs)
- girl or wife paysite owner (zero content costs)
- hot hot niche trend (temporary above average income)
- large company with 50 paysite niches (more chances at sale - distributed
costs)
- girl paysite has almost celebrity fan base (longer average stay)
These example sites above
have accounting advantages. Such a site might be able to make more per
hit than the selling price of traffic, and therefore can buy the traffic
that others cannot and can bid up the price.
