This week is sort of cool since several people wrote in to reveal the mysteries of the "MPEG URL POPPER". Kevin was first to write in with the solution on the MPEG url popper. He said that our old pal "Awesome Adam" told him the pro-level trick that a few folks are using as a work around to perform this manouver. It is sly =) Check it out in the trix section. If you have an Nvidia video card installed, check out Jason's trick where he found an nvidia 3D satellite world viewer...very slick! There is a 30 day free trial. I couldn't run it on my computer since I have an ATI card write now so I visited Jack the neighbor and we fired it up. It was freaking awesome. I have tried otehr satellite image viewers and even written about them, but this is by far the best. It is 3D and it is like flying around in your own airplane. You can also type in exact addresses. It is damn fun.

I am working the my snake-oil sales double this week =) Let me see what I have in my box of trix to show you to make this fun. Here is a screen capture. This shows how many people read the newsletter..

HOW MANY?
Well I haven't cleaned the DB in a while but here is a rare screen capture of the secret custom SexSwap News Command center hee hee heee

At the bottom of that gif, you will see 5716 active email accounts. Now this is a little over stated since I have not cleaned the DB in a couple of months so it is probably closer to 5250. At the top, you will see how many people sign up to get the newsletter each 2 weeks. The newsletter's reader base continues to grow which brings a smile to my face =) Then there are may people who just like to read the newsletters online. Here is a free counter I added to the site a week ago.

That's another 1000 a week, reading online which brings the total to over 6000 a week. I would estimate the breakdown to be 80% adult and 20% mainstream.

WHY READ?
I think people read the newsletter for new ideas and for entertainment. I keep a file of what I call the "kind word emails" and I add them to the site every few weeks. Here are some recent comments on why people read the SexSwap news...and thank you for all the kind words!!!! =)

AWESOME ADAM'S MPEG URL POPPER from Kevin

Just an update on the MPEG with a hidden URL pop in it. Well, I didn't discover how to create an mpeg that pops a URL per se, but with the Windows Media Encoder (www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/wm7/encoder.asp) you can encode a .WMV file that plays in Windows Media Player, and you CAN hard-code a URL to pop.

Credit really goes to my buddy Adam Barkow on this one, as he suggested the program, and also suggested a simple solution -- just rename the .WMV file to a .MPEG file. The file has to open up in Windows Media Player for the popup to work anyway, so the Kazaa user will thiink he's downloading an MPEG file, but in reality it will be a Windows Media Player file -- but will work none the less.

It's a quick and dirty way to do it.. and it's not a true MPEG, but it does play and it does pop the URL :-) So if the mpeg file format is more popular and will get downloaded more, then so be it.. rename it is! LOL

I'm testing this as we speak.. I have about 20 files I created in my shared folder in Kazaa, and BearShare. Surprisingly enough, they're NOT getting downloaded like I would have expected. Ran the software overnight and only got about 10 downloads. Maybe the key is to have a couple hundred files -- more search results would definitely equal more downloads?

And one more thing on this issue.. I know there's a way to attach descriptions and/or keywords to a file as well. I don't know if it's done straight through Kazaa (in My Kazaa), or if they're somehow encoded right into the file itself. So maybe I'm not optimizing my traffic here by only using descriptive filenames?

Yeah, I imagine that must be how they're doing it -- just by renaming the file. Because as I was saying, the Windows Media Player is the key component in this whole thing -- because it handles the internal script that pops the URL. So if somebody was using another media player application to handle their MPEG's and such, I don't believe the scripts that are encoded would actually work

Actually... on an even more sly mode of thinking, Windows Media Encoder has three scripting options -- text, URL, and custom I believe. If some programmer were savvy enough, I'm sure they could encode some custom script commands into the files to do a number of different things. Some stuff that comes to mind... autobookmark, homepage setting, changing the surfer's error pages to custom pages, etc..

I don't imagine this would set off any Norton AntiVirus either, since it's coming from a local file rather than a website. I know that our friend Asher has been bashed for these kind of tactics, so don't quote me on that part. Hehe :-)

This might be an interesting thread to open up too.... yet more food for thought :-)

Regarding pop-ups via MPEG's, you can use Windows Media Encoder
to create a wmv file with pop-ups and then just rename it to MPEG.
That's the easiest way I've found so far.

HOW TO RECOVER A SITE WHEN BACKUPS FAIL
He is an old trick that is stil pretty neat and worth repeating. This does not always work and is generally for simpler html based sites, not dynamic asp or php sites. There are two ways to find your old content if you are fortunate.

GOOGLE
www.google.com
search for your site on google. If you can find it, then click the CACHED link to find the older version of your site from previous spiderings. These usually stay on google for 90 days or more.

WAY BACK MACHINE
you might also get lucky and find an old copy of your site on the Internet Way Back Machine that chronicles the web

TWO WAYS TO MAKE HELLA COIN WITH NASTY DOLLARS
I send my traffic to NastyDollars. I've been saying for months now that I make the most money with their affiliate program AND their service level is excellent. In the past sexswap news I've had a couple screen capture gifs from me and otehr nasty users on how we are doing.
