TRAFFIC SELLING LIKE HOTCAKES
My secret to selling traffic is to tell people not to buy it. =)

If you read last weeks lower ad story, I wrote that I would be happy to sell anyone traffic, as long as they paid more for it than I was currently making. I also have always stated that it is next to impossible to buy traffic in the adult sector, do to the economic laws of supply and demand. This week Daniel and I are shocked that people are now lining up around the block to buy traffic? =) Again, I find this very bizarre so I am running the ad once again. I am assuming that people want to test and they also believe they can milk more money out of a hit than I can.

In the last few weeks, I sent Nasty about 1,000,000 hits and made $6000. I have friends that send 100,000 hits and make the exact same amount. I am telling you this so you can guage my traffic strength. This traffic is blind and raw and is the same traffic we have had at sexswap since day one. I therefore make 0.006 cents a click raw on this traffic. That is 6/10ths of one cent. I send all the traffic to Big Baturals because I love that freaking site.

For me to stop sending traffic to my favorite site, I would need to make more than 0.006 since I am very happy sending 100% of my traffic there. Currently Daniel and I will sell traffic from SexSwap1 for 0.008 to 0.01 (1 cent). Here are the current rates.

150000@0.008 = 1200$
125000@0.009 = 1125$
100000@0.01 = 1000$

ASIANSWAP LOGIN UPDATE
I forgot to write about this last week. The login area for asianswap is sometimes there, and sometimes has a "we apologize for the inconvience" sign. All banners are being displayed normally and the system is running. We are actually attempting to migrate the code from an old system to new system. Gus the programmer "creator of the original code for sexswap" has been working for 2 years on porting the awesome code from windows to unix and linux. We picked asianswap as the first guinea pig to test the code on in beta. Asian is one of the smaller exchanges here, and this makes the testing less disruptive. I believe the "temporarily closed" login sign will be up and down a week longer. I am checking in with him on this now. He is chasing down the last few bugs. Once we are certain the asian is stable, we will then begin migrating each of the otehr sexswap exchanges over to unix as well.

COUNTER THOUGHTS ON ADVERTISING
I like to argue with myself at times and here are some counter arguments to my always exaggerated statements "you can't buy ads in adult anymore". There are flaws in that line of thinking and I want to show two arguements to prove that there are other sides of the story that I neglect to present. You can use these to take me down in the highschool debate championships.

1. If my statements on advertising are true, then all advertising must be a waste of money. FALSE

Clearly, advertising does work or it would not exist. Coke, Pepsi, Miller, Proctar and Gamble all advertise. There always has to be some company selling advertising cheap enough, or there always must exist some ad buyer making enough profit to make the numbers work profitably. I think I am a little tainted in my views because of the dot com excitement a few years back when ad rates reach foolish levels. Levels at which you could not make money selling "crack" at. =) You might wonder....how did ad rates get so out of line temporarily? I can think of a few reasons...here are a couple. a) Let's say your company X is about to go public and my company Y is about to go public and we want to improve our balance sheets aka cook the book. I call you and say "I'd like to buy $10,000,000 in ads at $150 cpm." and you call me in 10 minutes and say "I would like to buy $10,000,000 in ads from your site at $150cpm". All of a sudden, we have some nice billing and have moved up our average CPM. This has little to do with selling product, but had a lot to do with fleecing the market. b) if I can get my company in the public eye before and IPO, I can make a ton of money on the stock first day pop. So many firms were buying ads just to get their name out in order to have a big stock run up. Again, this fueled ad sales but had little to do product sales and profits.

In the adult sector, other things occured that were a little like this. Everyone and their dog read "GET RICH QUICK - OPEN A PORNO SITE!". Within two years, there were 250,000 porn sites all after the same nuggets of gold. When this occurs, you have an economic imbalance and these sites were starved for traffic. Traffic sellers had the upper hand. Demand then is greater than supply. You man have seen these lovely charts in economics 101. This means that the price of ads must go up to meet demand. This means that the price is probably too high or will rise until people stop buying the ads since they are priced so high. This happened in adult. Now things are actually better since they have levelled off. People know if is not easy to find gold anymore. =)

So I will give in on my black and white position and change it to "it is tough to find advertising at a low enough rate to make a profit on it". It can be done but is tricky and you generally need a site with above average earning power.

2. If my statements on advertising are true, then all webmasters make the same amount of money on traffic. FALSE

I generate income sending traffic to an affiliate program. Do I make the same profit as the owner of the affiliate program? Its not easy to say. Generaly I feel most affiliate programs pay out more than they make and then make up for it in volume, but this is not always true. Even so, that same company might be able to make more on the same traffic if they have lower costs and keep 100% of the profit themselves. I often lump everyone into the same boat in my examples, where really there is a range of webmasters, affitiate programs, and ad rates.

CAN YOU POP AN URL FROM AN MPEG? from Kevin

Awhile back I remember reading in one of the newsletters about creating a .wmf file that can pop a hard-coded URL inside the file. Now a friend of mine that's a script guru once told me that he's seen an mpeg file that can do the same, and was trying to find out how to create one. I'm waiting for a response from him on this same issue right now... Do you happen to have any info on creating such files for use with Kazaa or other file swapping services? Setting up a dummy PC that just runs file swapping software all day long, with like 200 porn mpegs that get mass-downloaded -- that could be a nice fresh 1,000 or more uniques a day I would imagine.

I got an email from a Spambot of some sort. I often read my SPAM as it gives
ideas on what the current money-making schemes are going around. The weird
thing about this SPAM was that it was right off topic - but in a way that
got me thinking.

They sent it to my adult domain xxxcompetitions.com and it was about adding
free "fitness tools" to my website. I finally figured that they sent me this
because I did an article on FBB Pictures - Female Body Building - and so
there were a whole lot of fitness keywords on the page.

Of course they're not going to accept my site into their Affiliate program
because it's an adult site - but their bot figured I was part of the target
audience because of my article.

I didn't know of Spambots crawling in this context-based way before. Has
this been around for a while or is it a new email address collection
technique?
