News Tips Trix

This is the almost weekly SexSwap News-Tips-Trix and it goes to all members of SexSwap and SexSwap2 and AsianSwap and GaySexSwap and SexSwap2000 Banner Exchanges. It contains information on SexSwap, Porn, Tips'n'Trix, and software reviews for the adult webmaster. I perform all literary stunts without the use of nets, safety-cables, spell checkers, or grammar fixers, and this tends to leave the reader in a state of bewilderment...you will get used to it.

I am a little bored Tuesday night and the newletter is once again getting kinda HELLA large, and this make a good excuse to crank it out! You can then read it late tonight with your partner Jimmy Beam, or savor it in the morning with the black joe and a Kripsy. Tons of interesting news, script and BS this week. I am going to lead off with my ever popular "the sky is falling" story on MasterCard possible shutting the door on third party billing....many of you saw this story....well have I got a little extra juice for you! My new informant "Hubby Bear" has hit me with even deeper news and Huggys is seriously connected to the world of merchant accounts and his info is gold. You wont read this on MSNBC.

Man, I am all wired up this week and trying to sit on my hands. "Craig the programmer" is away this week and so our gamer project is on hold 5 days. The Cobra car is all waxed and ready for its first show this weekend! I don't want to get my grubby fingers on it so I have to leave it alone. It is the Knott's Berry Farm FUN UNDER THE SUN show in sunny california. Its like the Master's for Kitcar lovers and should have 100+ cobras and some hummers and lamborghinis. Rather than starting something new, I have resorted to practicing my foosball shot. Idle hands are the devil's playgorund ...as they say :) Where was I?

Oh ya...get this...5+ people sent in "HOW TO MAKE THE 3D SERIAL BOX - SOFTWARE BOX - BOOK COVER trick. It seems you can make them many ways and some people even charge coin to do it for you. There is a photoshop plug that does it. I made a sample one just fiddling around in illustrator. Speaking of Adobe, has anyone tried the new PageMill? I am debating whether or not to buy the upgrade. I probably will in time.

PUBLIC APOLOGY
I want to publicly apologize to "Astro" especially and ANYONE I offended or hurt with one of the tricks in last weeks letter. Last week I posted what I thought was a fun trick from long time sexswap contributor and online friend "D". D. and I share a hatred for CROOKS and so her trick was basically to send password thieves into CONSOLE HELL. I clicked the link and a zillion consoles opened and I alt-ctrl-deleted out of it, but I now know we all have different browsers and computers and OSs and perhaps this does not work on them all. Astro was 2 hours into a photoshop project when my lack of judgement gave him the blue screen of death and then a torturous reboot with ms orphan's a plenty. I am very sorry. I really didn't think it would cause anyone troubles like this. Astro tore a good strip off my hide and I would of done the same thing if this had happened to me. I removed the link from the archive immidiately and D. altered the trap as fast as I wrote her.

This week is also the week of blogs. I must of been living under my rock too long. Everyone is pounding us with awesome blog info. It seems like blogs are selling like hotcakes. Blogs seem to me like an easy to update website where a person banters about their day or subject. People have already been doing this for years...now their is software that makes it much easier and now this type of site I guess has a niche title. Lots of info on blogs below.

I think at least 4 people have written in with trick code this week. Steve has sent in his key word grabber that is gentle on servers for folks to experiment with. Eric, Dan, and Andrew have written in with the solution to randomly displaying 6 galleries. All soultions are unique and interesting.

AND...I reveal the secrets of the test between html with underlines and using css to strip them out and what happend to click rate. Get me that tall steed!

On with the really big shoe

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

LET ME DROP THE BOMB ON THIRD PARTY BILLING

first let's start with a news story.

MASTERCARD MAY STOP ALL 3RD PARTY BILLING
www.usatoday.com/money/tech/2002-04-19-paypal.htm

Now, are you ready for this...over the years I've meet some very cool and interesting people in a wide range of industries. Occasionally they will toss me news both on and off the record. Well list to this. Since Robert Blake is in the news this week, let me just say that "Huggy Bear" aka a High adminstration official, sent me the following email, which I have edited slightly. Huggy just returned from a conference (but I can't tell you when or where) ...this is like james bond stuff folks =)

Huggy Bear writes
I overheard a Visa VP saying that
with the new CVV2 they wouldn't allow rebilling
because they won't allow the CVV2 number to be
stored so on the rebill it will be a declined transaction.
Memberships and porn etc. will get a huge shake up
if/when this happens

Huggy Bear continues
You didn't here this from me because I just overheard
the conversation and said they would have to address
it because Visa and MC will be making CVV2 required
for internet transactions. They can't now because some
cards issued in 99/2000 didn't heve the number yet but
it's getting close?

guru-O-gif write
Yikes! now that is a PEE my panties news story if I ever heard one. The first story with MC, I thought was just a negotiation ploy from MC to paypal or something. With this added info...holy cow! If it comes true, it could certainly hammer porn. It would certainly hurt mainstream ecommerce too since so many sites like ebay use paypal. Really though...it would mainly hurt recurring billing. I will keep my eyes and ears open for more on this topic. Maybe Huggy Bear will drop us additional notes from time to time since he has the pulse of Visa Street and MasterCard Lane.

GOOGLE TESTING PAID ADVICE MARKET from Tara
In yet another test of new services, the search site is quietly wading into the expert-advice market, a lackluster business that proved too taxing for some former Net highfliers.
news.com.com/2100-1023-887360.html

Tara writes
I think that Google is on to something with this 'paid research' deal. It reminds me of Looksmart Live. I made over $1000k in gift certificates with that program. I think that it might be the wave of the future. There's already an internet company called Inetnow.com that pay researcher in a call center $10/hr to answer question from web surfers. On Google, the minimum cost of asking a question is $4, so I think that it will be a great source of profit. Google already has it up and running now
answers.google.com

I just signed up to answer questions, but I have not been approved yet (hope I make it!) and I will let you know how it goes. I think that you should sign up too since you are very knowledgeable.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

OK ALL YOU HTML UNDERLINE STRIPPERS =)
I AM GETTING ON MY HORSE THAT IS TALL
here was the test...lips.com gets 1000 type-ins a day and make for a perfect test bed for the bizarre gif man theories. One thing I have tested in the past is "the click rates between regular html and html with the underlines stripped out".

Ever wonder how to strip the lines...it is a cascading style sheet call...I thought this was java but now I am not sure...is css java?. Paste this after </HEAD> but before </BODY>

<style type="text/css">
<!--
a:link { text-decoration: none;}
a:active { text-decoration: none;}
a:visited { text-decoration: none;}
a:hover { text-decoration: none;}
-->
</style>

Now, on day one, Wed, Apr 17th, I tested the no lines like
www.lips.com/index3.html

and on day two, Thurs, Apr 18th, I tested the standard html with no funny business java
www.lips.com/index.html

CLICKS ON DAY 1 - 494
CLICKS ON DAY 2 - 571

gain by not stripping out underline
77 / 494 = 16%

www.simplecounter.net/simple/stats.php?countername=lips

Now...you could argue that
1. the test was not long enough
2. we are not sure if the days would of averaged the same
3. that this was not statistically significant

and you would be right. But I find wed and thurs to be pretty close on most stats of signups. The traffic is usually consistant. The next day the traffic held steady again. I am not saying that this is absolutely right...but I have tested it before AND I would urge anyone who strips underlines to perform their own tests...don't take my word for it.

How would you like to make 16% MORE MONEY? And this is a simple example...imagine links barried in a complex page. YES I think the links without lines are pretty, but pretty never put food on my damn table! Testing did! =) I have seen this same test a few times and yet everyone loves to suck the lines out of links.

TRAFFIC IS MONEY
CLICKS ARE TRAFFIC
MORE MONEY IS BETTER
MORE TRAFFIC IS BETTER

THEREFORE
MORE CLICKS ARE BETTER
THEREFORE
DON'T STRIP THE LINK =)

take it with a bag of salt and I urge you to test this on your own as well

NEXT WEEKS TEST
next week I plan to repeat the test but this time I will use FRAMES and in the top or left frame I will strip and in the bottom or right frame I will underline....I may reverse it as well. Then there will be two places to click and I will use two counters and THEN we will have very accurate results.

SOME SIDELINE THOUGHTS
did you crafty lads and lasses catch some of the other odd thoughts? 1000 type-ins a day and I got 50% to click. What does this mean? One thing it means is that TEXT can get very high click rates if you force people into doing something with a tight and focused message. People cry about click rates...well there is 50% click rates! BUT ....this brings up a new question "is it better to meta refresh 1000 type ins, or get 500 clicks where you pre-sell the people on what is behind door #2? I have always been lazy and refreshed...I do not know the real answer. I find that the shorter distance to the target often wins since I already pre tested my sponsor and their site sells well. Pre selling might get the people all sexed up but I don't think it makes up for the loss of clicks.

Let me do a quick check of stats. The numbers are two low to know. I got a sign up yesterday and the day before but I have had this pattern before. It is difficult to tell with such low levels. If I had to guess...I tend to think that pre-selling, or getting the clicker in the mode could probably out do the blind refresh. I may have to test this theory in the future on sexswap. What would be very critial is that lead in sale pitch pages...just like a paysite front end. Interesing. I will let you know if I try this down the line.

I just did a new check today and with the PRE SELL pages....I went four days in a row with zero signups which is statistically below average...this is why I have always refreshed all traffic to the end site. It just seems to work better for me.

GOOGLE LETS DEVELOPERS DIG INTO ITS WEB API TOOLBOX from Richard
news.com.com/2100-1023-884546.html?tag=dd.ne.dht.nl-sty.0

This is a great article...Once again Google shows that they are forward thinking and constantly on the look out for fresh ideas. I think this is one of the only ways to stay ahead in the fast changing world called internet. In 3 years, there might now even be search engines. New ideas will win the races. I think in 3 years, we will be saying Ya-Who? And Google will still be around, transforming with the times.

HOW TO MAKE THE SOFTWARE BOX | CEREAL BOX | BOOKCOVER from Mark
Mark writes
In photoshop, make 3 images... one 200x200 pixels (main/front), one
60x200 (for side), and one 200x60 (for top). Put everything in there as
if you were looking at it 'head-on'.

Once you have them made, open another new image (call it box) and paste
each of those 3 pics into their own layers. Now, just go through each
image and rotate it in x/y/z planes in freerotate (not sure of angles
off top of head, seems like it would be 33.33 degrees). Position the
pieces together and volia. Now merge those 3 layers, copy paste into new
image and reduce canvas size by half (shrinking it down should make it
look 'cleaner' but can skip that step if you want)...

Mark adds
LMK how that plugin works for you (see tricks lower on this page)... Looks from the example image:
xchange.studio.adobe.com/fsroot/661/3704/ProBox.jpg

like it's taking 2point perspective and keeping corners above and below vanishing points. That's ok; but you wouldn't ever see 3 sides of box if that is the case. Not sure if it's limited that way or not, but would be a good follow-up question for folks that are recommending it...

RE: HOW TO RANDOMLY DISPLAY 6 GALLERIES from Dan

I think this should work. First, put <!--#include
virtual="galleries.cgi" --> in the HTML where you want all six galleries.

Then, make a CGI script called "galleries.cgi". Here's the script:

#!/usr/bin/perl
@galleries = (
"path/to/gallery1.htm",
"path/to/gallery2.htm",
"path/to/gallery3.htm",
"path/to/gallery4.htm",
"path/to/gallery5.htm",
"path/to/gallery6.htm");
srand();
for($g=5; $g>=0; $g--){
$randomnumber = int(rand($g));
$thisgal = $galleries[$randomnumber];
splice (@galleries, $randomnumber, 1);
$order[$g] = $thisgal;
}
print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";
foreach (@order){
open (HTML, "<$_");
@thisGalleryHTML = <HTML>;
close (HTML);
foreach (@thisGalleryHTML){ print $_; }
print "whatever you want displayed between the galleries";
}
exit;

I didn't bug test the script, but I think it'll do what Craig wants.

This has been my same strategy with my domain - Lara's Playground. The
Search Engine traffic grows daily and with deep-linked networks on my mai
site and other domains, SE's love it! It's also great for building visitor
loyalty because it adds a touch of realism.

This blog path is probably the most labor intensive one - just like a
paysite, you have to be at it every day. It takes me around 2-3 hours every
day to do just the outside shell of the site + then there's all the
background stuff designed to be traffic pumps. But within 3 months of
opening, my daily search engine traffic is growing quickly i.e 3-4 per day
in Feb/March to 35-40 a day since early April and growing. They're not huge
numbers, but they're set to increase as Google eventually ranks me a little
better.

FIGHTING BACK AGAINST CROOKS from Lennart
Lennart writes
I am writing because of an earlier article: with problems regarding Affiliate CROOKS

ANYWAY - I did some thoughts and found that we can beat the crooks by "unite we stands" - so I have setup a website with this one goal after reading your article. The address is
www.affiliatecheaters.com

this is a brand new website and I hope it be used a lot - the main problem as I see it is that a lot of affiliate crooks have their own MessageBoards and when webmasters ask question about problems you never know who is answering - I mean if they are crooks they will answering the question e.g. "I have never had any problems here - it is a great program they always pays on time!" They will simply pretend they are some webmasters very satisfied with the program - and the webmaster will stay even longer as their might be - lets say $89 on his account and the minimum is lets say $ 100 so the webmaster thinks lets stay until I reach the $100 mark - and this will never happen!! And if it happens they will just not pay as they claim you haven't followed the terms. If people have any wishes for any other feature just send a mail and I will do what ever I can to set it up.

pretty much plug and play...will file your hard disk with millions of keywords in a matter of hours ;-)) I added a "sleep 5" so it doesn't just bomb their servers with requests ;-)

while () {

$socket = IO::Socket::INET->new(PeerAddr => "www.metaspy.com",

print RESULTS "$1\n"; print "$1 \n" }

Steve adds
I have the sneaking suspicion it generates a ton of useless data, but it was fun to write, so what the heck...hehe If you want the mainstream only version, just remove the following:

\?filter=false

from this line:

print $socket "GET \/spymagic\/Spy\?filter=false HTTP\/1.0\n\n";

to get:

print $socket "GET \/spymagic\/Spy HTTP\/1.0\n\n";

and no sex terms included. Maybe the next one to write will take
keywords from metaspy, feed them into goto for hit counts, and then
internic to check if they are available ;-)

Hey, and I figure if you can get 5 terms a second, that's 1.2 million
if you ran it for a month....hehe...but you could probably use a
random sampling process and not have to run it 24 hours. Then sell it
to webmasters... here's a company that sells pretty much the same
data: www.wordtracker.com/

Hey, I've been running that script for awhile and the following search appears every minute or more:

"odonata odonates dragonfly dragonflies damselfly damselflies
zygoptera anisoptera"

plus, I see a search for "jokes" a bit too often. Without a doubt, someone is running a script on metacrawler searching for these terms. Hehe...a bunch of kids and nerds, probably...

RE: HOW TO RANDOMLY DISPLAY 6 GALLERIES from Andrew
Andrew writes
The first question regarding how to make this is what server side technology to use. there are a lot of choices: SSI, perl, java, php and asp (the list could go on... cold fusion, server side javascript). A key consideration is what does your current enviroment support. in other words are you using IIS or apache for your web server, and what plug-ins and versions does it have installed? if you don't know what platform your running on this web site (www.netcraft.com) will tell you by typing in your web site and clicking "what's that site running." For intance my server is running "Apache/1.3.20 (Unix) ApacheJServ/1.1.2 PHP/4.0.4pl1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 Rewrit/1.1a on Linux."

For an app

if u r interested in learning php. the definitive web site is php.net. here is an example of displaying a random image in php. www.bembry.org/tech/inet/php/php3.shtml

what makes your application sorta tricky is that you need 6 *non-repeating* random pages. this script will display 6 pages starting with a random page, but after that they are always in the same order. if someone is clever enough i'm sure they could make it better...check out www.drewslife.com/club/test.php and hit refresh a few times to see a working version of a slight variation on the script (variation explaned below)

<?php
$a[0] = "filename00.htm";
$a[1] = "filename01.htm";
$a[2] = "filename02.htm";
$a[3] = "filename03.htm";
$a[4] = "filename04.htm";
$a[5] = "filename05.htm";

$count = count ($a);
srand(make_seed());
$number = rand(0,5);
for ($i=0; $i<$count; $i++) {
include $a[$number%$count];
$number++;
}
function make_seed() {
list($usec, $sec) = explode(' ', microtime());
return (float) $sec + ((float) $usec * 100000);
}

?>

This is a slight variation on the script that prints the names of the files instead of including them. you can see this script work at www.drewslife.com/club/test.php

<?php
$a[0] = "filename00.htm";
$a[1] = "filename01.htm";
$a[2] = "filename02.htm";
$a[3] = "filename03.htm";
$a[4] = "filename04.htm";
$a[5] = "filename05.htm";

$count = count ($a);
srand(make_seed());
$number = rand(0,5);
for ($i=0; $i<$count; $i++) {
echo $a[$number%$count];
echo "<br>";
$number++;
}
function make_seed() {
list($usec, $sec) = explode(' ', microtime());
return (float) $sec + ((float) $usec * 100000);
}

?>

TEOMA SEARCH ENGINE from Dangerous Dan
do you know about
www.teoma.com

somewhat like google, but they have this cool way of categorising the results on the right and giving hints for stuff to search for ... have been using it this week-end and, to be honest, I have to say that I prefer it to google ... I thought it was giving me better results than google (easier to find anyway ...) they plan to get bigger than google

80-20 RULE IN ADULT from Steve
Steve writes
Hey, when you were doing your write up on paysite math, I remember trying to find some appropriate stuff on it. I couldn't find anything, but I came across a different idea from marketing...that 20% of your customers bring in 80% of your cash.

guru-O-gif writes
I find the 80/20 rule in many aspect of life. somtime it is not always 80/20 ...it might be 10/90 ...like for example the sexswap banner exchanges...I would even say it is 10/90 or 5/95 10 % of the sites do 90% of the traffic. In paysites I am not so sure it applies...it would mean that the 20% of people staying for a really long time...say a year, are making you 80% of your money....this could be true. let's make up some crud

what if 20% of buyers each day stayed a year and 80% stayed 1 month and let's say you get 10 sign ups a day

2 x 365days x 12months * $20 = $175,200
8 x 365days x 1month * $20 = $58,400

it looks like 3:1 so YES...this means that 20% bring in 75% of the income...very close to 80/20 with numbers I pulled out of my butt. Let me try and guess average stay since this might show if the estimates are way of

average stay would be
2x12months + 8x1months = 32 total months / 10 joins = 3.2 months average
I am a little high here, but not that far off. I think this shows that the 80-20 rule most likely happens in the adult sector as well

Steve writes
What do you think? Is this true? The idea was to locate that 20% (through demographics, etc) and promote to them...offer them a discount right away or something to lock them in and then keep selling to them.

guru-O-gif writes
well I think you can observe the phenomena, but I think it is much more difficult to capitalize on it

Steve writes
Interesting idea...a paysite could do something based on zip codes, if they had a large enough database. What about a freesite? Hard to see how you could do it on the internet.

guru-O-gif writes
maybe. I just think it is very hard to find what is unique about the 20% ers. I just think the product matches their needs but it is not so easy to isolate and target them.

KENDRA WARNS ABOUT "MARKETING" COMPANIES from Kendra
Kendra writes
Please warn your readers about scam marketing "companies." I
contacted a company a few weeks ago about marketing my URL. They reviewed my
site, then gave me a laundry list of places they would be submitting me to
and changes they would make in my tags. They said that they work closely and
buy traffic/positioning to drive traffic my way. His proposal included
custom made banners, feature listing spots and weekly log reports to show
where traffic was coming from so I can see the results.

andy writes
I have warned people about these before and even gotten in fights with company owners....these sites are PURE BS

Kendra writes
I spoke to him in email a few times, and once on the phone. He "suggested" that I change my site so that it appealed to men. What he suggested was turning my site into a "cheesy" gallery site and selling memberships thru affiliate program. He said this would drive my traffic up. When I told him dont want pop ups and flashy gif's of cum squirting on a face.. he told me that I need to stop thinking like a woman get rid of the fluff on my site.

andy writes
he is an idiot

Kendra writes
said although he was very busy with major accounts, he would give me a because I was a small company to help an underdog. His price, 60K unique hits for $595.00.

andy writes
here is the math
600 / 60000 = 1 cent...but we have no idea what the traffic is coming from...they may be using consoles etc...these people are generally full of shit...if they were good at driving traffic, they would aim it at their own sites otherwise they are very much likely charging too much. I have NEVER heard a good report on any of them and I have heard from MANY disappointed customers.

Kendra writes
When I asked him for clarifications about some of his terms, and a few references, he disappeared.

andy writes
I love to go back to the classic example of porn as a gold rush. This is the same sort of folks selling "maps to the mine". If the maps were accurate, why the hell would they sell them...they would use this info themselves. Generally these companies are over priced for what you get. Many times they will get you banned from most search engines as well.

KVM - KEYBOARD VIDEO MOUSE SWITCHES from sign_bldr
sign_bldr writes
I remember about a year or so..Your monitor fried...you talked about a multi switch for you computers with 1 monitor what type of switch were you using?

andy writes
ya, it fried 2-3 times in 4 years. I believe my switch box causes it but I have no proof. I believe it is because the monitor can take a high refresh rate but the KVM switches cannot handle as high of a refresh and I think this maybe causes some problem...OR..maybe I just have a bum monitor...but they fixed it free each time =)

sign_bldr writes
Im looking into a Belkin OmniView 4 Port KVM Switch (F1D066)

andy writes
I started with that switch and it is a nice one. I then went to a Cybex Switchview 8 port and like it a lot too. I think the Belkin will be a great model. It does have a lower refresh rate though if I am recalling correctly

sign_bldr writes
any pros or cons??

andy writes
just check the refresh rate and see if it meets your needs. Also see if there is a key command you can hit to flick between units...I think they all have that but just check since that is the fast way....a few key strokes

sign_bldr writes
these cheapo dial switches(a,b,c,d) get stuck between changes sometimes...mouse or keyboard freeze up.. its a matter of time before the monitor goes.

andy writes
ya, i used to use those in the mac days...not sure how reliable they are at this point

I hear you "but I was going to try it in a week"...well you snooze you lose young Johnny =) June is still available...but I am hoping these brave 4 have excellent results with their ads and become repeat customers. Keep your eyes peeled for next week!

If you are interested in TOP MIDDLE or LOWER banners in sexswap news for $200, $125, and $99 respectively, please email my man Dan at daniel@gammae.com. We now offer BUY 4 get 1 FREE. Its not like the old free plugs...you can write more than 10 words =) Now I am not saying you can write War and Peace, but you can put probably 10 solid lines of text urls, emails and information on your product. Now I sort of like the |||| but just this once I will let you get away with the +++ or === or maybe the \\\\////. If you are a purest, I think you will enjoy the |||| =) Some of the radicals attempt ~~~~~ or `````` and even the unorthodox ____ ----_-_-_- just to garner attention. This I have not tested.
