News Tips Trix

This is the almost weekly SexSwap News-Tips-Trix and it goes to all members of SexSwap and SexSwap2 and AsianSwap and GaySexSwap and SexSwap2000 Banner Exchanges. It contains information on SexSwap, Porn, Tips'n'Trix, and software reviews for the adult webmaster. I perform all literary stunts without the use of nets, safety-cables, spell checkers, or grammar fixers, and this tends to leave the reader in a state of bewilderment...you will get used to it.

I had no idea what a "blog" was. Had you heard of blogs? I guess I must be living under a rock since I was clueless. Paul clued me in and also wrote some nice explanations for todays letter. Paul explained to me that BLOGS are short for web-logs and these are like an internet based diary or journal, for all to see. Paul has started the first porn blogs and is anxious to trade links with anyone else who has such a site. You can find his site link in the interesting sites section.

I have a question for everyone this week "How do I make those neat damn pictures that look like a software box or a box of cereal?" I think I need to find an example. Go here and look at that box in the top left
www.tgswupdates.com/index.shtml

and here is another example...you know, those damn fancy boxes that look like a software box but don't really exist
www.extractor.com

How the hell do you make those? Is there "crafty box software"? or is it a PhotoShop plug in? Or adobe illustrator plugin? Is there a name for it? Cereal box trick maker? =) Anyways...share the secrets if you don't mind

This week is just regular size, so you can sip your coffee slowly. That Wired prediction story from last week drummed up a pile of passionate emails from readers on everything from pilotless planes, to anti-aging, and the universe is expanding. I printed some of these in the lower section for fun.

Some interesting news this week to start off with. A large supreme court case decision to strike down the ban on virtual child porn tops the news. Ebay and PayPal are rumored to be talking. And there is a new bill on the books to put an end to fake FREE offers.

And next week...I am going to blow the lid off the popper with a new experiment. I reveal a couple on interesting test experiments at the end of this weeks letter. Next week, if I am correct in my theory, I will be hoping up on my soap box and spewing "ya see, I told ya so!" =) OK, I will give you a hint of what the test is. I have constantly felt that "stripping the underlines off links, drastically reduces click rates. I tested this long ago and I am testing it now again. I even think in IE6 they strip those lines off all sites. I know personally that I hate searching around with my mouse to find a link on a site. I know they are damn pretty to look at stripped...but what do we want? We want MONEY. Yes Yes and you get that money with TRAFFIC and that often come from getting the most clicks.

On with the fun

PAYPALS SHARES SURGE ON EBAY RUMORED TAKEOVER from Richard
www.ecommercetimes.com/perl/story/17279.html

this is a huge WIN WIN situation if both sides can pull it off. I had hoped ebay would come to their senses and buy paypal rather than start their own and struggle and then both companies would be weaker at billing than one good company. I hope this rumor is true.

SUPREME COURT STRIKES DOWN BAN ON VIRTUAL CHILD PORN
VOTE GOES 6-3 from Dan and Sign_bldr and Joel
www.cnn.com/2002/LAW/04/16/scotus.virtual.child.porn/index.html
www.msnbc.com/news/739373.asp?pne=msn

This is huge news. I think it is the correct decision. As offensive as some folks may find it, we have to be allowed to imagine and fantasize, even if some folks find the things we dream up to be offensive. How else would their be movies and tv? We read a book about a serial killer. We watch a show where a bad guy shoots 100 people in 3 minutes. Some might find this offensive but we need to be allowed to have free thoughts.

MOORE'S LAW
there is a great article in this weeks EWEEK magazine
www.eweek.com

I can't find it online yet. Moore's law seems to always pop up in the news. Moore's law narrowly defined was transistor density on a silicone chip. Moore is now starting to doubt his own predicition and many feel that we will hit a wall in 2015. Others, including myself, look at the law in a larger sense where it describes raw computational power growth. Some feel that we may grow in this respect at 2X exponential! What is neat about the article is that they show a graph and around 2025, the computer chip will process as quickly as a single human brain. In 2050, this will be the equivalent to every human brain on earth. WOW!

Here is one other thing the article stated that I did not know and thought was interesting. Moore's second law states "that while the power of chips doubles every two years, the cost of fabricating them doubles every three years.". Some are now predicting that financial limitations could slow moore's law. I tend to disagree. Businesses will pay for processing power. If leading chips go up in price to create a needed margin, we will still pay.

So you take a pic and then you have this Max Headroom style shopping cart helper etc. I am not sure how useful this technology is. It is slick but is it useful? I tend to think "no" since live shopping cart helpers never went over than big and also you could do the same thing with sound and a still pic. Spoken word tends to be slower than text and I find sites that do this slow the flow of info down. Check out the site just the same since it is cool and perhaps might lead to a new porn breakthur =)

SIMPLE SOLUTION TO UNDERAGE BROWSING from Tara
Tara writes
I've always wondered why the age verification problem on the Internet was such a problem? Remember a couple of years ago with the scare that every adult site had to have a age verification process in place or they would go to jail with the COPA thing?

Why can't the 2 browsers that constitute 99.99 percent of the browsers used by people add a simple age verification routine into them. It could work like so:

Every adult web site puts a code word into a meta tag such as
"XXXADULTXXXADULTXXX"

Microsoft and Netscape build a feature into their respective browsers that allows the user (such as a parent or library) to restrict the browser from accessing adult content. The only way to override the restriction is password protected.

Now every time the browser goes to a site if it sees the "XXXADULTXXXADULTXXX" code on the site it won't display the site. Since no adult web master wants to go to jail, everyone would comply and put the code on their sites. Sure some kids could get around it, but everything is hackable, but this would be so simple and solve all the age verification problems in one clean sweep. It seems to make more sense then the credit card approach?

You can be sued for your opinion. The article raises goose bumps on my skin. BUT! I knew about this way before I saw it in your ezine. As a member of the Westchester County (NewYork) PC Users Group, we were treated to a lecture last year The lecturer spoke about legislation that the big manufacturers are trying to get passed all over the country. Its now legal in Virgina and Maryland, the 2 states closest to the nation's capital. This is UCITA, a piece of legislation that will turn America into a litigation nightmare. As tho there are not enuff frivolous suits now, UCITA will bring about a thousand fold more when Americans express their Constitutional right of free speech. We all thought that we could express our opinion. Well we can;t, and its frightening. I buy a product and its turns out to be a piece of shit and I tell people about my problems with it and its a piece of shit, and I am in court, sued by the manufacturer of that piece of shit.

PROGRAMMER QUESTION - HOW TO RANDOMLY DISPLAY 6 GALLERIES from Craig
Craig asks
I have a TGP site asia-uncensored.com/index.shtml (not plugging the site, just for illustration purposes) and use SSI (server side includes) to write my gallery listings on the page using the <!--#include file="filename00.htm" --> or <!--#include virtual="filename00.htm" -->
I have a total of 6 galleries, filename00 through filename05.

Problem: I want to randomly display these 6 galleries so that all 6 appear on the page but in a different order with each reload of the page and so that none of the galleries are duplicated. I've tried Perl and Java but to this point have had no success. The only thing I have not tried (because I haven't the foggiest idea how to do it) is using .htaccess to display 6 different index.shtml pages based upon the time ie: if the page is hit in the first 10 seconds of the minute display index00.shtml, if the page is hit in the second 10 seconds of the minute display index01.shtml and so on.

I guess for a retired/ or some one with plenty of time you could make some extra coin.. collecting all your family & friends old books.. the main reason I think these books that did sell, sold so well was they where either on the subject of BLACKJACK, Card Counting, and Home Construction / Home Renovation-Improvements..

TEACHING PASSWORD THIEVES A LESSON from D. Trees

I used to sweat it when some thief got into my site. Hated it beyond all reason and sanity. I'd cancel the password and block the IP. The latter I'd have to take down after a while, but I'd still do it, just out of spite. Now I do something just a bit different.

I grabbed Birdtrap from BigNoseBird to redirect 401, 403, 404 and
500. Nice little script, but I need to work on it just a bit more.

Here's the cool thing. When I catch a stolen usr/pass (and you know I watch my logs in person), I set up Birdtrap to refer folks to a different URL for a 403. Then I cancel the pass and block the IP. Birdtrap picks up the 403 and tells the thief:

RE: UNIVERSE IS EXPANDING AT AN INCREASING RATE from Dan
Dan writes
I have to say that I subscribe to the theory that the universe is not only expanding, it is expanding at an increasing rate. Many theorists believe this is caused by some kind of newly proposed force described as "reverse gravity" that is very weak, but also effective at very long distances. As the universe expands to the point that regular gravity is weakened by distance, the reverse gravity makes the objects push away from each other. So I would have to say the universe will not stop expanding... it will continue to expand at an increasing rate until all the stars burn through the existing hydrogen and the universe ends up a very dark place. Optimistic, huh? Here's a decent article on the subject

RE: STILL AROUND IN 2150 - EXTROPIAN TRANSHUMAN MOVEMENT from Kal
Kal writes
referring to that bit in #240 of the Sexswap newsletter about whether anyone here in 2000 will be around in 2150; this is a pet interest of mine. Many people refer to bio tech and anti-aging concerns as the Extropy movement, a movement where through technology, man will stop being this entropic animal with doomed machine bodies. This is also referred to as becoming Transhuman.

Many scientists in the media discourage the practical application of Extropic technologies. They tell us things like our bodies are too complicated and we can never control these machines;, or they say the technologies futurist's propose for all these breakthroughs are centuries off, and none of us will be around to benefit.

Being 50 myself, yes it may be wishful thinking, but I believe that within the next couple decades we will start seeing medical technological Extropic breakthroughs that will change man like nothing ever has. We are already seeing amazing cures being formulated for diseases based on results from the Human Genome Project almost on a regular basis.

There are a number of Shared Computing Projects concerning medical and Extropic research to be found on the internet and they can be supported by a simple screensaver or software install.

RE: PILOTLESS PLANES BY 2020 from jspr
jspr writes
You are not completely right (in the Wired future prediction thing) when you say we don't have computer controled subways and trains. Stansted airport outside London, UK, has an internal metro system transporting passenger between terminals which is 100% computer controled.

andy writes
sure...there are always instances of robotic trains and buses AND we can fly remote control airplanes now as probes in war...but 99.9999% of planes are man controlled. I know I made an absoute statement which is partially wrong

jspr writes
It is totally science ficton-ish when the driverless car picks you up and a softspoken female computer generated voice welcomes you aboard ... "gzz ...please stand clear of the doors ... gzz ... the train will depart in 20 seconds". COOL. This is probably just a one way circle circuit, but I have heard of new subway systems in european cities doing the same (not sure if they are already running or just in the making).

andy writes
sure. but again...it was by 2020 or something...if there is pilotless planes...it will take a lot of time.

jspr writes
And as for planes, most are already practically pilotless. All the pilot does is taxi the plane onto the runway, welcome people aboard and hit the "fly to destination" button.

andy writes
yes...but practically and actually are two different things :)

jspr writes
My former brother in law is a pilot and he told me that between take off and landing all the pilot does is monitor that the computer doesn't fuck up.

andy writes
yes, but try and sell the public on a pilotless plane and it will not happen AND the lawsuits would be horrendous

jspr writes
And not so long ago I was on a flight where the pilot said "our calculated flight time today is 2 hours and 37 minutes" ... and that made me go "HEY - that isn't possible" ... when I start a car ride I don't say this will take 2 hours and 37 minutes, I say two and a half hours and mean +/- 20 minutes. So I started my stop watch the second we took of, and stopped it the second we touched down ... 2 hours and 37 minutes (+/- 10 seconds!). No human is that precise - computers are. The way I see it this situation is the same as when Apple launched their first computer with no 3.5'' floppy drive and it took people a long time to realize it was only a mental habit that made them think a computer was useless without this obsolete device. Some day an airline company wil say "ok, we have now made 1,000,000 flights with 2 expencive pilots doing nothing but drinking coffee, talking to the passengers and scoring the occational stewardess blowjob - let's teach the stewardesses to reboot the computer and get rid of those expencive pilots". It will be a huge mental hurdle to get on a plane like that, but it will happen - and I think maybe even sooner that 2020.

andy writes
these is no way in hell it will happen by 2020. The technical hurdles are HUGE and the public hurdles wou;d be just as high. Sure there will be the odd military pilotless plane...but no commercial airline. Maybe 2100. The risks are too high. Humans are very good at solving problems. Computers are very good at doing the routine. Airplanes are great if everything is perfect but you need humans to correct things when things do not go as scheduled.

THIS IS THE INFAMOUS $99 BOTTOM AD SPOT
How many webmasters read this spot? I don't know...but I do know that you and I just read this spot! =) This stinking spot is only $99. Now you can't beat that with a stick! Just for reading this spot, I am going to tell you a BANNER TEST SECRET I did this week.

Now you do know that you can BUY this spot for $99 -> email daniel@gammae.com

RARE BANNER TEST RESULTS
I am always trying to get that extra 5%-10% out of a system by testing. A few weeks ago after testing various designs, I was drinking a little Jimmy Beam and flexing my lips outward as I contemplated "what can I try next". There was a little more lip flexing when my lips flexed outward and stopped dead! That's It! I began babbling to Sanchy the wife who gave me her courtious "that's nice dead" as she often does.

THEORY
I am guessing that two banners of EQUAL click rate produce UNEQUAL sign-ups rates.

Sure, you might of thought of this before. I hadn't really tested it ever though. I had two very good banners that I new got the best click rate in our system. I was using banner A and I was sort of scared to use banner B. Well I shoved banner B in there and let it crank for 3 days. Guess What? Banner B beat Banner A by at least 10%. A few days test made us 10% more bottom line.

You are saying "Oh Sure" and I bet you are flexing your lips outward and asking the real question "but why?"

Why don't I email daniel at Gamma and Why don't I be one of the BRAVE the BOLD and GRAB that BOTTOM AD!

Wait....that was not the question WHY..now was it =) Why did the one banner out pull the other? I can't say 100% sure...but I can tell you 80% sure. Listen closely Samantha.

Banner A had a more sophisticated user in mind...the TGP surfer. These people know what a picture is and they click gallery links and pictures etc all day long.

Banner B had the AOL noob in mind. It was basic and dull and sort of silly. No TGP surfer would ever click it. Well guess what....the people you want to click banners are noobs!

THEREFORE
if possible, try to think of things a new surfer would click more than a crusty seasoned surfer. I know it isn't that easy to think of such things...but simpler dumbed down banners I tend to think do better than advanced ones in the adult world. I think a CLICK HERE will get you a more AOL style surfer compared to a Movie#1 Movie#2 Gallery#3 style banners

just something to think about. and while you are thinking about that, flew your lips outward and click here and TELL DANIEL "By George...I want that INFAMOUS BOTTOM ad that Andy continually hits us over the head with sales pitches each week!" daniel@gamma.com =) hee hee haaa

TEST TEST AND RE-TEST
I have one more story for you and I wanted to save it for after the banner story since they are sort of related. I love testing and the internet is a marketing research dream since you get hard data so quickly.

I love sending traffic to the Nasty Lads www.nastydollars.com/ and BIG NATURALS as I have said before. Once again I was drinking some Jimmy and lip flexing. When a hit goes to BN, and the hit desides to back out, he gets the popup asking for the sale to Cum Fiesta. If he closes that window, he gets asked for the sale at Amateur Movies. My theory was...move MILF to the number one popup, then Cum Fiesta to number 2, based on what I had seen in my traffics stats. Ernesto made the switch for me...thanks guys! Well right away...I could tell once again, our sign-ups jumped almost 10%. A simple banner test and then a pop up move and 15%+ was added to the bottom line. This is why I never seem to shutup about testing =) This is why testing paysite front-ends is so critical as well.
