Remember when that Dale Del
Gato was on TV every second for infomercials on buying and selling real
estate and they had that singer guy, John Davidson, and they would banter
back and fourth about getting rich selling swampland in Florida. I remember
something Dave Del Gato said that I did not agree with. Dave said "there
are three things you need in life to be an entrepeneur, or successful,
and those are an IDEA, MONEY and TIME, and the hard one is TIME".
Well, I think Del Gato is correct if you have and idea and money, but
he is dead wrong if you are missing the other two ingredients. There
are people with time and money that would give their left big toe for
an "idea", and there are people with ideas and time that would
pee their pants for some "money" :) Now if you were a marketing
major, you might take this one step further and say it is "maslow's
hierachy of needs"
www.valdosta.edu/~whuitt/psy702/regsys/maslow.html
When you are young and a
wet behind the ears webmasters, you have time and ideas and need coin.
Then you make a little coin and have time, but you need a better idea.
Then you get a pot of gold and ideas and you are freaking swamped and
wish you had some damn time :D I am not sure what it is...I think you
always have two and wish you had the third depending on the sitch. I
left my cave one day 5 years ago to meet a guru in another cave. He
was one of the best future trader's in the world and I tracked him down
on the net. I said "I need to learn your tricks". He said
"I am a hermit in a cave, go away, don't bug me kid unless you
got coin". I paid the coin and went to Reno and visited this crusty
curmudgeon. He said almost the same dumb story "you need three
things to be a great trader, PSYCHOLOGY, a SYSTEM, and MONEY, and physchology
is the hard one". Once again I said "BULLSHIT". If you
got the psych and the system, you ain't going anywhere without the coin,
and if you got the cash and the psych, you ain't doing stink without
the system.
What's all this banter mean
to me? if you want to be makin da money on the web, you need three things
"TRAFFIC, CONTENT, and COMPUTER SKILLS" :P and I know I would
love to tell you TRAFFIC is the hard one of the three :) but really,
its good to have all three.
What's this all really mean?
What is the answer? What is the truth?
Believe three quarters of
what you read, half of what you see, and a quarter of what you hear.
Take it all with a bag of salt :D
on with the show

The story looks great. As I have said all along, I believe this will
be the spark that ignites a tech rally. As of writing this in tuesday,
amazon currently up 23% today. Yippppeee!. This is a great sign for

JEAN LUKE PICARD MAY LET
CAPTAIN KIRK RE-DRIVE THE ENTERPRISE
Karl and Dan and I have been throwing ideas around all week on the future
direction of SexSwap. We just hammered out a new plan with 3 small changes
in store.
1. EMAIL JOIN BOX FOR NON
MEMBERS
after 2000 years, we finally will have a simple and easy way to join
and get the newsletter without having the added complexity of joining
the banner exchange. Karl has been programming a trick new mail manager
for us all week and I am actually attempting to send this email out
with it! This will make managing the email much simpler.
2. SEXSWAP WILL OFFER 3 TEXT
BASED AD SLOTS
Yep. The time has come to offer ad buyers a way to get into the newsletter
if they wish. For years people have emailed me "how can I buy an
ad, send me your price sheet" and then I write back "sorry,
we don't sell ads but I can give you a 10 word free plug". I think
you will also be glad to know that we are starting with text based ads
to see how it works. I am a big believer in text based ads like google,
as opposed to banners which are more common in html emailers. Here is
what we are thinking for pricing
TOP $200
MIDDLE $125
BOTTOM $175
How big will the ads be?
No idea =) You tell me. We want you to be successful so I think an interesting
paragraph...maybe 100 words with 1-3 links. I'll be the one dealing
with the ad buyers, and Dan will be in charge of the billing. We want
you to be successful in marketing your product and have tried to price
the ads low enough.
NEWSLETTER STATS
EMAIL readers weekly - 4000
ONLINE readers weekly 1000
TOTAL 5000 webmasters read weekly
TOTAL ISSUES 229
READERS 75% ADULT / 25% MAINSTREAM
newsletters stay in the sexswap vault online forever :)
so if you are interested,
we have nothing formal as of yet so it will be a lot of confusion and
hair pulling for the first month. We plan to start first week of February.
If you sell
WEBMASTER SOFTWARE
HOSTING
SERVERS
AFFILIATE PROGRAMS
CONTENT
PROGRAMMING SERVICES
TRAFFIC
or anything else that webmasters want, and if you are interesting in
being one of the first fish, I mean cleints =) then plese drop me an
email and hope in the line queue -> andy@lips.com This is something
that we have been meaning to do for a long time and never got around
to it. I think we can make it fun and can incorporate some good stories
into the ads as well so they are not dull as toast and so people want
to click and learn what's out there.
3. JEAN LUKE GIVES STEERING
TO KIRK
King Karl and the Guru-O-Gif have pretty well dotted the I's and crossed
the T's and it would seem that I will be back at the helm, steering
the big ship SexSwap. This means that you can once again flood me with
your "HELP I can;t upload my banner" and of course I will
pawn that off on Sanchy the wife, just like it was 1998. It also means,
there will be a good pile of "I HATE CROOKS" stories as I
put on my gus gustopherson detective gear and prowl the stats pages,
looking for my evil arch enemy, the dreaded "hit bot". I will
be torquing those filters, and toggling the switches. Hey! one more
thing that I should have is some new banner testing stats. One nice
thing about running the banner exchange is that I can test the living
day lights out of banners. Who do you think made all those goofy ENTER
EXIT and pic1 pic2 pic3 banners...me and Legendary Lars ..that's who
=) Of course I won't be telling you my best ones...that's a secret,
but I'll let you know how the second and third stringers are testing
and show you the percent clicks when I hammer em with a pile of hits.

ANALYSTS DEBUNK WEB PORN

GURU OF GIF DEBUNKS ANALYSTS
once again, these analysts have their heads generally 12.75" way
up their asses. Sure, porn may be 12th overall, but if you take the
average porn sites traffic vs any other style of site, porn has to be
number one. When you count sites, no catagory comes even close to porn
for numbers of sites. Did these analysts take basic economics in college?
Where does new business open? It opens where there are above average
profits. Why did porn explode online? Because the laws of simple supply
and demand. There was a huge demand for it. Why did 3,000,000 people
open porn sites? Because that is where the coin was. You can't argue
these numbers. I think this is goody two shoes analysts trying to justify
the web or something. It just seems shocking to me that they can make
these odd blanketing statements that seem to be opposite of reality.
There are some porn portals now doing 1M uniques a day. I think Hun
and a couple others. This rivals the biggest search engines. These numbers
are fierce. I would agree that more people are doing more things online,
but you cannot discount the adult sector as being small or a myth.

We did the following with Ibill and CCBill, hope it helps. First we
signed up with CCBill because they installed the script and we didn't
know a thing about that. Yes, I know about the security issues that
now and again come up with CCBill but in more than 3 years we haven't
had any problems. Anyway, they installed the software and of course
we could add and delete passwords as needed on their interface.
Then we signed up with Ibill using the option where they send you a
list of usernames and passwords (don't tremember the name right now
but it's clearly explained there). The only downside is that we have
to input those passwords (Ibill's) manually. But other than that, it's
pretty simple and works great.

RE: NO WAY ON 10 K FOR BOTS
from AgnetCash
AgentCash writes
I just read the newsletter this week, and I have to say that the quote
of $10,000 a week on AIM chat bots is way off. I wish I was making that
much :( I've been running my chat bots for a little over a year and
a half now, and I used to promote some commission junction programs
and make $200 a day doing that. That lasted until September of 2001
when AOL instituted their first major wave of bot blocking attempts.
Now, with adult sites (the
programs at commission junction went under, or lowered their payout)
I'm lucky if I make $40 a day. This isn't some half-assed operation
either. I run 6 dedicated computers an average of 23.5 hours a day.
You see, you can hit all the major chatrooms with just a few computers,
you don't need an army of 50-100. The conversion ratio for this traffic
is fair, typically 1:3 for free programs, but considering many of the
people in these chats are horny teens without a credit card, the pay
site conversion is horrible, typically on the order of 1:10,000.
I'm not going to say I was
the first person to advertise in AIM chat, because I wasn't, but I will
say this. I was the first to do such a dedicated job of it. If you chat
on AIM, then you know my bots. To tell the truth I'm beginning to question
why I even do it anymore. I lose sleep over whether I'll be getting
my next check, and the pay isn't really worth it to me anymore. I've
had domains terminated by a group of individuals that have dedicated
their lives to ridding the world of chat spam. It's become a real pain
in my ass. If you know anyone that wants to buy 6 computers with my
custom bot, you let me know. Since someone seems to think there's so
much money in it, I'll sell it all for a weeks worth of the pay rate
they quoted.
I guess the point I'm trying
to make is 'Don't believe everything you hear.' I am a major presence
in AIM chat advertising, and I'm just not seeing anywhere near that
kind of money. If someone has a program they want to promote, I'll gladly
send the traffic their way for a cut of ten G's a week. Heck I'll be
lucky to make ten grand this year. Back in the day, the pay was great,
but now there is a lot of competition, the affiliate program payouts
have 'normalized', and people are out to term chat advertisers. I was
averaging $7000 a month when I first started, but it's been a downhill
run since summer 2001. The funny thing is I get more traffic now!

STOP PASSWORD TRADERS from
Geoff
Geoff writes
Let your readers know about this. Several months back a member of my
site sent his passwords to some password trading sites. I found out
after a couple of days when my host notified me about my bandwidth going
crazy. Well I never bought any password protection after that because
I was too lazy and cheap. Well just this week it happened again. I decided
to buy password sentry at
www.monster-submit.com
it was about $65 and they
installed it for me that day. It works awesome it is totally configurable
from an admin page on your site. Now if more than 3 people come in with
the same password or whatever they are suspended. You are then notified
by email. You can change this to any number you want. I also set it
up to send those suspended here:
www.hotcarolinagirls.com/npmembers/
This is what happens, someones
posts a password to a site within 3 attempts the password is suspended.
When someone tries to use the password after that they are taken into
a fake page that looks like my members area, then they're home-page
is set to my search engine, four or five pop ups come up and then they
are redirected to a warning page about using stolen passwords and are
asked to signup. So far about 50k people have run through this thing
in the past few days and created about $75 bucks so far. Enough to pay
for the password protection. That's it!

Mike writes
Just thought you might like to know that the 4 "P's" of marketing
are Product, Price, Promotion, and PLACE. Place is really supposed to
mean how it is distributed (i.e. the Internet). It's a logistics issue,
not a "packaging" issue. I know this because I have a degree
in marketing, and it's pretty much all I learned in 4 years of college.
I know you didn't write the article, and I know it's not truly important,

Cinestream allows you to easily add many types of events such
as page flips, hot links right on the movie (click my tits!),
dividing a movie into chapters among many other events.
Its also a full bodied video editor geared to work with DV formats.
The other great thing is you're not stuck with just medial player
as a format, you can output these Event videos as real player
or quicktime as well! Great software, now under 200 bucks (sometimes
with firewire card).

AFFILIATE PROGRAM SOFTWARE
from Lanus
Lanus asks
Do you by chance know of any free or affordable affliate software/script
I can use to run my own affliate program?
Guru-O-Gif writes:
I don't know of any off hand. Let me do some search on old newsletters
since I think I touched on this once or twice before. I just did some
searches on the big online script sites and came up with a bundle of
them in perl, cgi, mysql and php. One thing I always caution people
when thinking about starting affilaite programs....have tools to catch
crooks. I would estimate that 50% of effort at most big porn payout
sites is put toward minimizing fraud. If you are paying for clicks,
how are you going to test to see if they are legitimate clicks? If you
pay per sign-up, how are you going to insure it is a legitimate sign-up
or sale? I found that one of the best filters you can program, and one
of the easiest, is just ranking functions. Show me the top 10 sellers
yesterday. What did they sell, how much, and when. You then, by hand,
go through that list and start learning what it should look like each
day, and learning when things seem funny. You then follow an url trail
and investigate the top 10 folks and see what the site looks like, what
those sales look like etc. You can program great filters til you are
blue in the face, but it is hard for crooks not to be greedy and they
generally rise to the top of ranking lists, which then need to be combed
over each day by hand. I again would wager that 50% of all adult pay
programs that have gone under owe much of their demise to fraud. An
affiliate program might be cheap or free, but man, if it is weak, you
are going to get robbed siz ways from sunday. Just be aware of this
and go slowly :) Here are some links.

can I get one working for me? How do they work? Do I have to get accounts
from AIM,ICQ,MSN and set the bots from their? Where do I start to get
one? Do
Guru-O-Gif writes
I am not really sure how they work. It is a very secretive industry
on the porn side. You can get one at all the sites I listed last week
and then started testing. It will take a lot of reading and learning
and maybe some cash as well. The successful people say that have thousands
of hours and some heavy coin in theirs. You generally fire up the script,
and then drop it in a chat room. Sometimes you need one computer per
bot for AOL etc. Some guys ran 12 computers and 12 AOL accounts. I am
not sure about YAHOO. Most people say the good days are over and it
is now hard slugging and pennies and grief.

AMATEUR VS PRO from Abe
Abe writes
Everybody (well 99%) of the girls are in this to make money so I don't
see this as a factor. The thing is what were they doing (or are still
doing) before appearing on their website? Take the Wetlands for example.
John's wife (can't remember her name now) was a true housewife when
they started a few years ago. In fact, John started without her even
knowing. She might have become a performer but I still think of her
as an amateur. Very sophisticated operation tho.
For me the thing goes like
this.
Pro:
Has appeared on magazines.
Is or has been a stripper.
Is or has been an escort.
Poses for various sites and/or content providers.
Glamour models and such.
Pornstar (super-pro) or wanna be pornstar.
They could be very involved in the process of creating their website
and even answer their emails.
Amateur:
Your typical everyday life girlfriend or even wife who happens to get
naked for her website. Actively involved in the process, from modeling
to answering emails, etc. Amateurs are the girls you see on those Mardi
Gras and Spring Break videos, and not all of them.
I agree that the quality
and settings of the photos and the "no surgery enhancement"
is a very good tip-off and it's part of what turns on the true amateur
lover because they can relate to that. Not so with the way they dress.
My wife wears stilettos and kinky outfits and even wigs sometimes and
I know she's an amateur (at least I hope so - haha).
In this sense, more than
90% of the so call "amateurs" out there, are not. Just go
to any of those sites and click on their "friends" page to
see what I mean. Their definition of an amateur is a girl who participates
in the website at least answering her emails. That's fine and many do
much more than that, practically running the whole thing by themselves,
which is very hard work. But if I see one of this girls in Gallery Magazine
one of these months, or if she suddenly apperas at my local strip club,
then she's clearly NOT an amateur.
Take for example Asia Carrera.
She used to run her website all by herself, maybe she still does. But
clearly she's far from being an amateur.
I liked the "homemade"
concept somebody wrote on the last newsletter, because the word "amateur"
has been hijacked in this case. But don't get me wrong. In this age
of poticilal correctness I'm not putting these girls down. It's a lot
of hard work and they provide fun and pleasure to a lot of people. They're
just not amateurs but the truth be said, they tend to have better and
bigger websites.
