HAPPY THANKSGIVING !
Hey kids, we are back to
the regular sized version of SexSwap news...last weeks was too darn
big and almost gave me a hernia. Last week I said "buy amazon".
No sooner than sending out the email...Amazon up 30% in one day! Those
wallstreet lads must read this rag ...hee hee haa....ya sure. I have
to admit I had tears in my eyes. About 2 weeks ago I decided to change
online brokers and was sitting all cash trying to move the funds...I
missed those DAMN HUGE amazon gains! I was so sad since I had been patiently
waiting :) Oh Well. I opened my new account and bought the shares again
yesterday. My theory is that Amazon with follow the path of GOTO/Overature
which announced profitability last month. They have almsot tripled in
2 months
bigcharts.marketwatch.com/intchart/frames/frames.asp?symb=over
I have been trading online for almost ten years now. Did any of you
trade on the old AOL maybe in 96 or so? Remember keyword PCFN. They
were PC financial network. I think they might of been something before
that. Well PCFN was gobbled up by DLJ. Then DLJ was gobbled up by CSFB
Direct. Here is the PCFN website and you see they list DLJ and then
CSFB
www.pcfn.com
Here is actually the history of PCFN which started on Prodigy...remember
them? And remember Compuserver...anyone remember Apple eWorld? :)
Well I didn't like being
moved around so much but I tolerated it. And then the news got dark.
CSFB announces something like a $400M loss which seems to have been
upgraded to $187M in latest news...and that is a fair chunk of change
and then this
CSFB TO SELL ONLINE TRADING UNIT

Eek! they are selling me
off yet again. That is 4 times. Well this made be too nervous so I decided
to jump ship to get some stability. I decided to go to a sort of unknown
broker that I have always had great service from their company. I am
talking about AMEX...a dow 30. they have this cute little brokerage.
The phone people are top notch. Fees are reasonable. The online site
is still not as fancy as a DLJ or eTrade but there are so many great
sites like MSN Investor and BigCharts that I do my research their. My
only complaints so far would be that they do not email me my trades
so I log in and see them. If you are looking for a "stable"
and neat online brokerage, you might give them a look

This week lots of interesting
tidbits. It is a week of testing on the AMD 1U as Joe and I debate the
value of a sparingly amount of goob vs the Guru-O-Gif large dollop of
white silicone heat sink juice in a tube. Wes the ISP sent in two great
products to fiddle with. he sent a 100ATA round cable which I added
to the box AND a very slick side discharge Elan 1U fan/sink combo. I
test these badboys out on the box and have the results. They may astound
you! And then again, they may bore you to tears but I had good fun doing
them :)
HEY! I forgot to mention

Hey! Did you see that Lewis
fight? That guy is the king. Tyson Lewis in heavy negotiating and we
may see the fight as early as April and it will be HUGE in terms of
pay per view dollars and as a mega event.
Here I am on tangents again...back
to hardware, software, porn and mainstream! This week I got a ton of
emails on HOW to send beautiful spam emails with a JAVA pop up embedded.
I never figured out how to do it but there are lots of TRIX that tell
you how. It seems you need a MIME compatable emailer like Eudora and
you are good to go. This week a couple folks wrote in on HOW to do those
complex rollovers with DreamWeaver and it can be done. This and more
let's roll
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
STARTUP.COM MOVIE
If you have a dish or cable with pay movies or go to blockbuster...RENT
THIS MOVIE. It is a real life documentary and is fascinating. It is
exactly what we have been talking about in sexswap news for the last
2 years and I think all porn folks and all wise mainstream folks will
be astounded by the insane events that occured in the dot com gold rush.
The story is about two friends that creat a dot com company. It was
govworks.com and they honestly raise something like $60million! You
know the story as well as I. They BURNT that money. All of a sudden
they had 300 employees and they were smoking money. It is so amazing
watching...they never ever talk about TRAFFIC once. They almost never
talk about HOW they are going to make money. They have these air fairy
grandiose ideas that are pure vapor and nonsense. What is sad about
this story, as with all dot com failures, is there was a solid CORE
business idea that could of made millions for 2 -10 people. Really what
their niche started as was "paying new york parking tickets online'.
Awesome idea and they got the contract. You could of been a millionaire
JUST doing that with 2 people. But they were smoking the green stuff
and were clueless which was too bad. Men pretending to be big shots.
Venture Capitalists pretending to be wise. Man VCs bug me...they are
wet behind the ears MBAs but their parents had coin or they found money
and as my dad would say "you've been on the road horse shit".
They think their advice is golden when they are good at one thing ->
fleecing the stock market. They are not good at picking ideas or helping
a business grow. Anyways, I found the movie awesome since it was an
inside view on the rise and fall of a dot com. Remember that guy that
did the play about amazon...I could not stop thinking about him saying
"I am so very busy" as he waved his hands up and down. I have
never seen people have so many meetings about air and work so hard at
nothing in my life. Great stuff.

EMAIL ATTACHMENT FUNNY BUSINESS
I am like a big dope. I paniced last week when the email came in as
an "attachment" and I quickly looked at my email properties
and saw "50k convert to attachment". I did not see that it
said "incoming" and not outgoing like I thought so my second
email was useless since it was on my settings to receive and not to
send. I am sorry for the double send :) Now I know. I hope everyone
is not getting the mail as attachments. I better not write as much :)

COMMENTS ON DIALERS AND 900#S
from Michael
Michael writes
From what Greg said it doesn't sound like that dialer did anything illegal.
The fake debug script thing is illegal, but more than likely the webmaster
rigged it and the dialer network wasn't aware of it. All legitimate
dialers these days give a clear price disclosure so the surfer is aware
how much he is being charged. Same goes with the 1-900 charges your
friend had. I've been researching dialers and the PRS industry for nearly
a year now since that is how long we've been developing our dialer network.

TS LOCK from Simon
Simon writes
For the last 18 months my company
www.topshelfsoftware.com
has been developing a new privacy software app called TS Lock. The idea
is to target porn surfers who choose to download porn onto their own
PCs. TS Lock will let them totally secure that porn so only they can
view it (protection from the wife, boss, kids etc...). TS Lock encrypts
image & movies files - once they are locked they can only be displayed
inside TS Lock - which is password protected. It was a bitch to develop
but its an excellent app!

PRO-LEVEL ROLLOVERS IN DREAMWEAVER WITH BEAHVIORS from Mario
Mario writes
I wanted to let you know that I work pretty much exclusively with Dreamweaver
(just grabbed the 30 day trial of version of 4.0!!!) and what "ROLL
OVER
BUTTON TO CENTER PIC from Kevin" is trying to do can be done with
Dreamweaver, using behaviors. An example of this on my site
www.adriansroom.com/index2.htm
you'll notice some thumbnails
with a "film strip"
effect on the right. When these are clicked they will change the image
on the
main picture area, this is a built in behavior (simple javascript) in
Dreamweaver. This will not reload the page it will only change the
"property" of the first image that loads. Also there are a
bunch of
extensions (MXP files) that can be added to Dreamweaver, some can be
downloaded from Macromedia, others you get for free from the developers. These
allow you to do some really wild things for example see a site that
we put
together at
www.pleasurable.com
which uses many of the cool
tricks that I
have gotten through extensions. I am sure that Golive can do the same
type of
thing I am just not as familiar with it.

JAVA EMAIL POP UP by Mario
Mario writes
On the pop up email that Ryan asked about, the key is that he said he
"clicked" it. So you can easily do this by using an "onload"
command in javascript, in other words the link goes to a page that contains
the javascript code, this triggers a console (which is just a new page
with a specific size and with certain page options turned off) Again
on this one it can be done with Dreamweaver and behaviors. I don't know
how to open a console up without a click, but if you embed the javascript
in an html email it should work also, I will have to try it. Its a pretty
good idea, although I don't do much mass emailing.

Yepper, now OUTLOOK had STATIONARY but it wasn't really stationary (at
least I never could figure how to use it...) but with Eudora it is pretty
simple. I will send you a SMALL java/html after this ,without popups
since I hate them! (but they could easily be added with the FORM/CLOSE
widget in HTML) Once you create the page you CUT or COPY the code. OPEN
Eudora and paste it into a new letter. Select FILE then SAVE AS STATIONARY...
[now for the secret] you have to OPEN it again to send it... BUT IT

I use bravenet for my html mailers & mailing list. I create the

You just need to put an entrance console java script into the email
. Myself I prefer to use a "pop under" so they don't close
out my newsletter before reading it.
When you go to bravenet,
they have a section for "mailing lists" Within that section,
you can compose html email to send to your list. Unfortunately the list
is opt in, so you can try & import your existing mailing list, but
those people will need to opt in (again)
I have their upgraded system
where they maintain my lists up to 3000 people, and I can customize
my html for each newsletter. It was definitely worth the $100/year.

JOE AND I DEBATE "HOW
MUCH GOOB IS TOO MUCH" by Joe
Joe writes
I was really impressed to see a 1U AMD Box, I might be tempted to build
one now... BUT That's too much goop!!! That much heatsink compound on
a cpu will do more harm than good! Heatsink compound should be applied
lightly, it's purpouse is to fill the microchasams betwean the heatsink
and the cpu core. That much goop will keep heat on the cpu and not on
your heatsink. What I use to apply a thin layer goop is my blockbuster
credit card (best when swabbed with Isopropyl alcohol) I bet you if
you take the goop off and go with a light dose of Artic Silver II and
you'll loose a lot of heat..
Guru-Of-Gif writes
I have heard this from others but I am not sure I believe it. The silicone
is just a material that tansfers the heat from one object to another.
When you pull the heat sink down, it squishes the silicone down to a
layer that is tiny...the excess goes into teh void around the CPU. I
figure this would be air normally and now it allows heat to pass on
the side even more. If you read the back of the heat sink, it says nothing
about applying sparingly and states "high heat conductive metal
oxide suspended in silicone". now I have never tested my theory,
but I have never seen tests to prove it otherwise. If you can show me
a test, I will believe :) I have heard people saying to put it thin
but i believe it is a wife's tale. I may try a test one day and see
if your theory holds up but I think after compression, there is no more
than a few thousandths on my cpu...the rest is to the side and I think
it can't hurt since air is the culprit.
www.extremeoverclocking.com/reviews/cooling/Thermal_Compound_Comparison_3.html
interesting test...the compounds all tested even. I use the exact one
he calls "high quality" or GC Z9. Here is the tube
www.extremeoverclocking.com/reviews/cooling/images/Z9_Silicone.jpg
this is what we used in the vending industry to put certain heat sink
parts in juke boxes. I just think that the CPU sink and fan take so
much pressure to clamp down, most of the compound is squished out since
it is a liquid and you get a thin core amount. this again is my theory
and I have no real proof :)
Jow writes
Your right, the CPU goop is squished down and that is part of the problem.
For Example you have 8 mini-heatsinks and three bridge points on an
AMD cpu, these normaly don't produce much heat. All that excess goop
is now transfering heat from your cpu core to those mini-heatsinks and
bridges that are normaly air cooled, which in turn is keeping your cpu
slug (core) and ceramic hotter than normal. I learned that through personal
experience, I was using RadioShack compound I was pegging 150F+ temps!
The compound was so hot that it started to smell like burning plastic!
I cleaned up my cpu and added the recomended dose of artic silver to
it and the temps droped 30F. The other problem also depends on how fast
your goop can transfer heat to another object, if your goop doesn't
have a good thermal movment heat will build in the extra goop and not
pass to your heatsink fast enough. Now these arn't really tests, these
are recomendations from manufactures and reviewers.

GURU-O-GIF SHATTERS THE MINIMAL
GOOP MYTH
after reading Joe's email, I have to admit that I was worried. Perhaps
those other tiny components needed air. This all did not sit right with
me. The key is to get the metals talking to each other and flowing heat.
I can see no problem with extra goop since it allows even greater surface
contact on the edges. IT WAS TIME TO TEST
The very first thing I did
was reboot the AMD 1333 and go into BIOS hardware monitor and look for
the CPU temp. Here is the pic at 78C
trix.sexswap.com/goop/DSC00001.JPG.html
I took the new 1U off the
shelf and gave it 10 minutes to cool down. I then removed the heat sink
and inspected. The Gif Man enjoys the term "apply liberally".
trix.sexswap.com/goop/DSC00002.JPG.html
Now what I want you to notice
is the imprint of the actual CPU core and you will see just how thin
the material in that area. You can even see the hint of copper
trix.sexswap.com/goop/DSC00003.JPG.html
AND on the CPU you can totally
see how 99.99% of the material has flowed off the CPU, leaving a very
thin line. This is what I predicted would be happening in my email and
was correct. This still does or does not prove whether the little items
on the CPU need air to breath. I began cleaning the CPU with alcohol
and even borrowed a Butcher Of Baghdad ultra small paint touch up 'dabber'
to get into every crevace. I then put the CPU back in and painted a
tiny layer with the dabber. This was thin and painted on, not globbed.
I was frankly worried that there was not enough!
trix.sexswap.com/goop/DSC00008.JPG.html
I fired up the box and waited
10 minutes. It was time to pay the piper. I honestly said to myself
"I'll be a monkey's uncle if there is any significant difference".
I just could see that the tightness of the heat sink forces all unecessary
material out and AIR is generally a very poor heat conductor and so
globs touching the sink could have no ill effect I can think of.

the temp was identical. I thought it might be 1-2 degrees different
but nothing substancial.
CONCLUSION
1. don't believe everything you read on the web
2. choose either high amounts of goop, or minimal, it is up to you.
I prefer high because as
you seat the chip, it is at and angle and end up not always in the right
place and I can slide it a little when there is a lot. With minimal,
you have to sit it down just right. The drawback to lots in "lots
of clean up". Do you want to apply KY liberally or frugally? I
prefer liberal...but that's just me :)
Great fun and I appreciate
Joes links and info on this subject. My guess is that perhaps the radio
shack goop was not that great or something else was going on. Most online
tests show Artic silver the same or 2 degrees cooler than others. Great
fun!

Well, I'll be damned... :-) Heheh...BUT personaly I am still going to
follow the directions to the letter from the arctic silver people, I
don't want any microscopic silver chips shorting my L1 bridges out If
I stick too much goop on my core. :-)

WES AND THE LADS AT UIA SEND
OVER HARWARE
I got a package from Karl the UPS man and inside were some fun 1U toys!
Wes the ISP
www.uia.net
got his minion 'young Johnathan', to send over two excellent items.
Let me first say "Thanks Wes and Johnathan!". Wes sent over
another model 1U heat sink with fan and this is the Elan model I showed
a photo of a couple of weeks a go. The fins are all brass
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00022.JPG.html
and the fan shoots the air sideways.
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00021.JPG.html
I remember Elan as a kid since they made downhill skis. I had a pair
of Elan Ballets. I think this is the same company...too bad they got
sucked in and made a goofy flash site...what a pain in the ass to find
anything
www.elanskis.com/index_ski5.html
Wes also sent over the very
rare and sought after 100ATA round IDE cable...slick!
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00019.JPG.html
there are those 80 tiny wires
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00020.JPG.html
I decided it would be a great
third test after the goop test to try this new fan and wires out. I
removed the current fan and one very neat thing was that there was nothing
to clean since I used Joe's sparse application method in test 2. Check
how clean these are!
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00026.JPG.html
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00027.JPG.html
I would have to say that the clean up has got me leaning Joe's way little
more now :) Here is where I start to get worried....Wes's fan unit is
about 70% of the size of the Don Bosco badboy unit I removed.
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00030.JPG.html
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00031.JPG.html
I thought to myself "we are going to be experiencing thermal viscosity
breakdown and I am going to be bugging Wes for a new CPU and mobo!"
hee hee haaa. These tests have to be conducted in the name of science
so I proceeded forward. One thing I love about this Elan unit is that
it has one of the nice clips. You can actually install it without a
screw driver and you then have far less risk of slipping and driving
a hole in the mobo.
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00032.JPG.html
I next added the new 100ATA cable.
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00033.JPG.html
Now came the grief. The little stinking slimline CDROM has no jumpers.
I tied booting once...no luck, it grabs primary. I tried moving the
cable around so HD was first in line...no luck. After an hour or so
I was getting pretty cranky and had to add back a seperate ribbon cable
for the CDROM and just used the fancy cable on the HD. It was time for
bootup. I expected that the new fan would not work as well. Let's see.
First, before I started I did a quick check and the CPU was 81C. The
room was hot. But it took a couple of hours to get things working with
the cable juggling so my guess is it was closer to 79 - 80C with original
fan. Results
trix.sexswap.com/wes/DSC00034.JPG.html
Wes's fan ran cooler! Suprising!
It was not a hell of a lot cooler, but it was cooler none the same.
After I took this pic it jumped to 78 and the other fan seems to run
about 79...so you save 1-3 degrees C. Is it worth it? Sure, mainly since
it has a better clip and is easier to install. it is 2X to 3X more pricey
thought. he fan I used I think was $12 and I believe the Elan runs closer
to $30. Here it is for $29.50 and Gtweb
www.gtweb.net/hw129.html
What does this all mean?
I think it means three things
1. AMD chips run hot as hell
2. 1U fans have a hard time bringing such hot chips down to reasonable
temperatures
3. As Wes would say "I wouldn't run Windows98 on an AMD" ...hee
hee heeee
Well I think you can run
more than win98 but for mission critical stuff, you are pushing the
edge of the envalope. So fan the box has ran very well. I will continue
to see if it can hold up or break :)

PRIDE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Saturday! get ready to rent another mixed martial arts NO HOLD BARRED
(except for 3) event!
www.pridefc.com/upcom/indx.html
now I will warn you that this one is not as big as some of them so it
won't be a huge event. The one match I want to see it Herring vs Nogueira.
I like Herring but feel this new lad from Brazil is just too damn skilled
and will become #1.

SOFTWARE HARDWARE BS
Craig the Programmer has been working his fingers to the bone on our
mainstream project and he had this neat bit of info to send me
"MySQL is running at a whopping 222.916 queries per second"
very slick! We are running 600+ spiders that are pounding on the mysql
DB. Great fun and tricky programming. Craig is working his magic. We
still have a few performance hurdles to cross but the hardest ones are
behind us.
Now on the upgrade front.
I was disappointed last week when 2 events occured
1. the people I ordered a
video card became CROOKS. remember that cool black and gold card ordered.
Well the 800 number has been disconnected AND the emails bounce. Fortunately
they did not charge my credit card. On an aside, online I now do all
my charges with amex "Private Payments". They should call
it "PRO-LEVEL CROOK CC HAMMER". I wrote about this early on
but had trouble finding it. If you have an AMEX card and are worried
online (I have had crooked sites jack up my card before)...well this
is a slick little service where you CLICK a button and WHAM...you get
like a STEALTHY one time use NEW amex number. So you never use your
actual CC number...you use these mini pro-level numbers that only work
one time so the crooks are THWARTED and can only run up one damn charge.
It is pretty easy to use and might take me 2 minutes more to buy something
online.
www26.americanexpress.com/privatepayments/info_page.jsp
2. and the second thing that
did not work out as planned was that my new slick 1.2gig backdoor speed
up chip from PowerLeap did not work on my crusty old P2B-LS :( boo hooo
www.powerleap.com/Products/iP3T.htm
it would of been so cool if it had worked. I am now stuck at a PII 400
or celery 366 and need another way to try and juice this last mobo up
a bit. From this GOOGLE news post, I think I have a chance at overclocking
to 950 since I have revision 1.03. You will have to copy and paste this
link
groups.google.com/groups?q=P2B-LS&start=10&hl=en&group=alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus&rnum=16&selm=39C9CEF4.106B1DA3%40its.dtu.dk
I may give it a try if I can email the author for more info

GURU-O-GIF CPU GARAGE SALE!
I tried to sell these to young Stel but he wanted to wait and see in
the new year. I figured I would try and sell them one more time since
they are only dropping in price by the second :) If you are interested,
email me and if we work out a deal...send me some paypal and I will
fedex. Here is what I got to sell and want to sell as a package so if
you are an ISP, this might work well for your boxes
(1) PII 266 slot 1
(1) PII 333 slot 1
(1) PII 400 slot 1
(4) PIII 450 slot 1
(1) PIII 666 fcpga
$200 takes them ALL!
I priced them new and then
took over 50% off and it was like $210....how does $200 takes them all
and pay the fedex, payment by paypal. PIII450s are running $71+ new
and the 666 is running $63+ new a so those alone would be $350+ tax
and ship. All CPUs would include fan and heatsink...no wires. I would
also toss in one or two extra heat sinks that I never used.
another offer. could you
use a Seagate Cheetah Ultra SCSI 9 gig model
ST39103LC
it has a wierd plug and I have maybe used it once. I think I have an
adapter plug around. this drive is selling for $130 - $200. Yours for
$50
www.seagate.com/cda/products/discsales/marketing/detail/0,1121,32,00.html
take everything (HD and CPUS)
for $240 ! I pay the ship (USA only please..payment by paypal only please).
Email me if this is of interest. Please be aware that there is a healthy
amount of DUST on some of these CPUs :)
